What other methods of transport have you learned to drive?
I was wondering what other methods of transport you have learned to drive/fly/sail etc
I have learn't to sail (dingy's and yachts) and drive a tank.

Drama is life with the dull bits cut out...
I learned how to drive a car in 1994, and passed first time,
but trying to get my 17 tonne cat. c lgv rig licence, but not with so much luck due to cost, and failing, (maybe because I can't scare the examiners enough to pass me, so they don't have to get back in the wagon with me!!)
think I need to practice my emergancy stops before taking my driving test again though, as did foul it up on my last driving test, not enough to fail, but enough to knock my confidence in petrifying the examiner!!
as for a bike, then can get on one, but so long since I last ridden a bike, probably scare others!!

i driven an armoured personnel carrier (basically a troop carrying tank) when i was in the army cadets, aged 15.
Went from their to the air cadets or flyboys, lol as they sometimes called, got a flight in a high speed raf hawk, (same plane as red arrows)
doing 400 mph up east coast england. then to top it off, I did a flight in a light aircraft for my birthday last year, mrs crofty paid for me to actually fly the plane.
flew right over my house, had full control of the plane and flew half way across county durham. the time i was up there felt like it was forever, just seemed to never end. lucky my stomack stayed in that one place cos the turbulence was damn awful.
tell you one think though, flying up there, away from all the people on the ground below, its bliss, get away from all the bustle and noise.
do it every day if i had the money.

After the French surrendered I'd have an army at my disposal and it'd be effective as per the second rule of French warfare (The french can only win when lead by someone who isn't French)
Then I'd move on to most of Europe, it seems whenever anyone tries that they end up with a fair old chunk of land, I'll avoid invading Russia. That's where it always seems to go wrong.
Instead I'll aquire all the breweries in Europe and trade with the corrupt Russian military, alcohol for tanks. Once I have all the tanks in Russia I don't need to invade, the country will be mine by default.
At that point I can start an unstoppable world war, and roll over all of Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa. Not America, people who fight America in world wars have a tendancy to lose.
In fact, getting Russia early is how I guarantee no American involvment. I set up sweet oil deals using the Siberian oil fields to rescource them, such that no corperate entity in America wants them to go to war with me. American politicians are helpless to move against the multinationals thus paralyzing their army.
Once I have the rest of the world it'll be time for the apocylptic battle with America. Rather than risk an esculation to nuclear war and the end of humanity I instead close my borders completely, going so far as to shoot down even civilian aircraft that try to enter my country.
Then it's just one guy at a trainstation with a test tube of a weaponised disease to end the game.
If only I had my first tank...if only.

Growing up, I found tractors the easiest thing to learn to drive on, as they're slow and very difficult to stall in the lower gears.Greg wrote:Well "other" is a bit of a stretch, since I can't drive a car or ride a bike.
I can (to a limited extent) fly a glider, drive a tractor and sail a boat.
Nobody with their right mind would give me a tank. I'd try to invade Paris.
I've been known to dabble with motorcycles as well as my regular car driving, that was fun (appart from the falling off).
yeah ridden a couple of moped's, they are fun, just can't get used to the fact of twisting your hand to make it go faster, without pedal power!! and the stability thing I found a slight problem with, especially at lower speeds, ie. 10 mph.
I don't think I would bother getting myself one though, as car drivers think of you as another bike, so cut you up, and drive extremely close to you when overtaking, instead of thinking about the stability, and the fact that you might need to swerve for some reason.
so no, you wouldn't see me getting a chicken chaser for all the money in the world!

That, and the buzzing of that little two-stroke would give me a headache.Shadwell wrote:yeah ridden a couple of moped's, they are fun, just can't get used to the fact of twisting your hand to make it go faster, without pedal power!! and the stability thing I found a slight problem with, especially at lower speeds, ie. 10 mph.

I can drive the car, but living on a farm means I can also handle motorbikes of all different shapes and sizes, and have drive the occasional tractor - we dont have one, if there's one here we're borrowing it. (We don't really need one farming goats, as feeding out can be done from the trailer behind one the bikes). I used to do a spot of sailing and kayacking, been a while since then though. Not the best of choices for me...never really figured out how swimming works....
I am about to start a course in driving my passion, trains, at one of the local railway museums. That's going to be interesting...
Cheers,
