Dyspraxic Adults

Would anybody here be interested in a channel like this? A non-judgemental place where you can chat with other dyspraxics through your microphone and practise holding conversations. I can start the channel if enough people are interested.

Sounds interesting to me. I know a lot of people use Discord, although I haven't yet. I'm a bit old school in terms of Internet culture, so I remember Teamspeak, Ventrilo and stuff like that for microphone stuff. Still, Discord does seem preferred these days. You probably won't get replies here super fast though, I warn you.

I am not that much of a "discord-type-guy", but that would be pretty nice if you ask me. I might very well join if you do it, I have never met/speaked to "a fellow" and always felt alone with no relatable one.

Lol yeah I remember Teamspeak and Ventrilo. Been practically living on the internet for most of my life. If more people express interest we can get a server going.

what is a chat channel?

Like a virtual private group chat where a number of people can chat live online together.

Discord is like Skype in that it is a Voice over IP app and was set up/is used by the gamimg community.

Okay you two. I'll set it up later tonight and update this thread with a link. To be honest, it's probably easiest to get Skype details sorted first so I'm able to update you guys as to the password and link for the server when it's done. My Skype email is danieldeanhodge@gmail.com, so that's how you'll find and add me. My screen name on Skype is literally 'Dan Hodge', so you'll know you've found the right one when you add me using the email. I'll check later tonight whether anybody has sent a friend request and then I'll start up Discord. Ciao for now.

Sorry just wanted to ask when you say conversational skilla us it because you dypraxia can impact speech??

In this case I believe it is more to do with building confidence in speaking to other people in general by speaking to others on the chat channel via a microphone on your computer (or headset if you have one)

Some people do have speech difficulties.

I tend to agree with Tom, I think for me personally, it's more about confidence in talking to other people. Whether it's my dyspraxia or personality, I tend to be quite quiet when meeting new people, but once I get to know them, and vice versa, I tend to get more chatty and show the real me more. Even then I do tend to get a bit quiet sometimes, often through not knowing what to say or the lack of small talk skills, which is a valid point which has been made on this thread.

But mainly for me it's about the confidence to talk to people, the lack of small talk is a minor issue for me, but I would be very interested to hear the views of others.

I think this is a fantastic idea.
Although I won't participate due to lack of time and confidence, I really hope you manage to set something up.
