Post-college depression?

Postby poodlelover81 » Wed Apr 19, 2017 4:05 pm

So I had the best time of my life in college. I didn't study much and had C's and D's, but my third year I drank a lot with friends. Sure, I had rough patches with my mental health. But I had many friends on campus, my first boyfriend, and my first girlfriend. To be honest I never thought about what came after campus life. I imagined I that would be with these people forever. I've always had mental health/emotional issues, beginning with OCD when I was six. But sizce moving in with my family and having no relationships other than with my mother (and my cousin över the phone), my anxiety and depression have gottn worse. I see a psychiatrist and am on 5 medications but I still reel depressed because I Miss these relationship and hadn't prepared myself for what happens after college. All of my dreams are on campus with the Same people. I don't evet feel emotionally ready for a job right now. Any tips on how to move forward with life?

I don't know how much I can help you since when I left college, it was much easier to find work than it is nowadays. I will try to share a few thoughts, based on my conjecture that has come from what I've read about you.

1. Do you want to continue living in the same area as you do now, would you prefer to move to a different part of the USA or would you even prefer to get some experience working outside of the USA? That may influence your choice of career.

2. It sounds as if you are stronger at literacy than you are at numerical or science subjects. If that is so, it will obviously have a major bearing on your career. choice. (Sorry if I've stated the blindingly obvious). Two possible options for you might be copywriting or Teaching English as a Foreign Language.

3.It also sounds as if you are stuck in a rut in a small town somewhere. My guess is that you would be happier in a more cosmopolitan environment with lots of university graduates around to have fun with.

4, It is very possible that you will need to do some kind of post graduate certificate or diploma to get on in your chosen field.

5 Have you considered doing some kind of semi - voluntary work such as the Peace Corps to get yourself out of your small town, meet some new people and get some useful experience?

I hope that some of these thoughts have given a little bit of help. And I apologise in advance if I have said anything that is patronising or blindingly obvious.
