Not sure I'm really qualified to answer this as only flew the nest two years ago in my late 30s. Equally did not really understood what dyspraxia was until about 4 years ago when I learned I was affected.
My parents were driving me mad and probably vice versa too. While I didn't really want to pay pay any rent for living at home, it wasn't a great amount and I was able to put money away for a deposit and pay for some holidays/going out before I got a mortgage.

Re: Parents
No worries man, just knowing i'm not the only one driving my parent(s) mad is consolation enough I also had no idea what dyspraxia was for a very long time - only first heard the term about a month ago in fact, and due to the red 'incorrect spelling' line under the term (but not I notice for dyslexia) I can hardly say i'm surprisedTom fod wrote:Jake

Anyway hope you're doing alright on your own!
Re: Parents
Well, Dyslexia is one of the main 'poster' neurological conditions, it's the one everyone has heard of even if they don't actually understand what it is. Far less people have heard of dyspraxia.
My family have always been supportive of my dyspraxia, indeed although undiagnosed we suspect that my Mum has it as well, and probably her dad too. Having had an early diagnosis myself, and 'some' support in schooling has at least enabled me to develop my coping mechanisms.

Re: Parents
I have the same problem I live with my mum and we constantly argue because of my tone of voice and sometimes what I say doesn't always come out right I also feel that she smothers me due to having dyspraxia and having the difficulties that you do with house chores and ect I get that parents can't help it and to them we probably are still small in their minds but they really need to let us grow up and live our life while we can because even though we have dyspraxia they have to realize we are going to grow up eventually and leave home it's just the way of life if this is what you are talking about I fully understand what you are going through with your parents I have been going through this many years with my mum and it can be challenging because even though they care for you they will never fully understand what it's like to be us.
I've had dyspraxia all my life btw and I'm almost 24 years old.

Completely understand where you're coming from, although I wouldn't exactly say I'm smothered I live with a very controlling person who unfortunately tends to fly off the handle over the smallest things - not dissimilar to myself in that respect, but unfortunately were always conflicting over matters which makes home life quite unpleasant. I'd like to move out, but not entirely sure I'm ready to yet due to my fear of long term change and this leaves me with a significant dilemma. But yes, it gets ridiculous when tiny repetitive forgetful behaviour on my part like forgetting to leave the key in the door etc causes a massive problem, and I'm often accused of doing it deliberately.ScarlettDarKrYDER wrote:I have the same problem I live with my mum and we constantly argue because of my tone of voice and sometimes what I say doesn't always come out right I also feel that she smothers me due to having dyspraxia and having the difficulties that you do with house chores and ect I get that parents can't help it and to them we probably are still small in their minds but they really need to let us grow up and live our life while we can because even though we have dyspraxia they have to realize we are going to grow up eventually and leave home it's just the way of life if this is what you are talking about I fully understand what you are going through with your parents I have been going through this many years with my mum and it can be challenging because even though they care for you they will never fully understand what it's like to be us.
