Dyspraxic Adults

I was just wondering did my fellow dyspraxians share the view that they prefer communicating online rather than face to face. I love seeing my friends but I seem to prefer online chatting. Also does anyone else get really nervous when new people are introduced to their group? I do. I also find I can talk to strangers quite well but get nervous when it is someone I know introducing the stranger. Also I always feel like I don't really fit in places. Does anyone else feel this way?

I am a bit of a recluse.

Most of my friends (the very few that I have) are not local to me, indeed most of them live in different countries. So Internet social networking is the easiest way to stay in contact with them. Actually I met my most of my social circle via the internet and Motorsport forums.

But it is nice to actually see them in real life from to time to time

I also prefer meeting people via social groups online, rather than in person I think it is more to do with the awkwardness, silence and anxiety.

Yeah same here, it is strange how i can have a much better online conversation with someone than when i see that person face-to-face. Plus i prefer texts and messages to actual phone calls, i still find them awkward for some reason.

I'm far better in putting something in writing than I am into speech, but it always nice to see people you know and like.

That is probably because we get more time to work out what you want to say i suppose rather than having to quickly come with a response (i always think of something good to say after the conversation happened). always happy to have more friends by the way

I get lonely if I barely get to see anyone in real life. Although it is indeed easier to chat online I have found for many years now. A few of the people that are now friends of sorts in real life were first known of on the internet. As others have said, you can come across better online and have time to think about your responses, where the awkwardness is masked. When I was a teenager I found it enough to just chat to people online, nowadays I do find excitement in meeting people as well, though it is scary, and just hope I don't come across too rubbish! :p We all need that 'real' human contact as well.

On the Facebook note... I don't add people until I have known them in 'real life'. It's a good rule when it's a matter of a social network site giving out too much about yourself too soon - not keen on people knowing my full name as it is!

Good point Moot, i also follow the same policy with Facebook as well. talking online is good, but you need actual contact to survive, i get quite lonely as well sometimes, coming home after work to an empty house.
