Trouble getting to the friend stage

I have acquaintances but I have no friends. I have difficulty opening up to people, so they can know the real me. Does anyone else with dyspraxia have this problem, what can I do about it.

You could be me. The people I know are acquaintances too. People in passing who I never see again once we part. They certainly aren't friends. You have to regularly see them and go out with them to places like the flicks and give them gifts and stuff for that. And I can say with a tone of assurance in my voice I don't remember ever experiencing that.

But I do concede that I would be surprised at all if any minute bit is in part due to the fact I have Dyspraxia. You, my friend, like me, just perhaps have low self-esteem.

If we don't think we are deserving enough of a persons friendship, how can we ever open up and show people the real us if we have low self-esteem? It is a strong likelihood I think a low level of self-esteem would have a significant effect on our attempts to gain friends and influence people.

It is that my good friend we know we need to work on but we also know is so bloody hard to overcome because we know it takes more effort than is possible to do overnight.

The only thing I can suggest is something I know I must do. Just to bite the bullet and go for it. I don't believe in the psych-cobblers that says we should repeat stuff to ourselves in a mirror. I would look a prat.

Take the plunge. As Del Boy says "He who dares...."
