Re: I have dyspraxia and I struggle with maths
I totally agree about needing to understand what a subject is ALL about in context for it to make sense - I find I am insatiably curious - it is almost part of my addictive behaviour but that post is extremely enlightening - it is great to know we have teachers around who REALLY understand dyspraxia...

Re: Hi
I got most help from face to face and online contact with others in a similar position when I began to suspect I was dyspraxic in 1999 aged 50 when I was working in London. It may help to seek an assessment that will be accepted by an employer and the NHS - I personally would prefer an assessment by...

Re: Lost in Dyspraxia
I try to avoid giving tips or advice regarding dyspraxia/DCD related matters because, as I understand the condition, the co-ordination difficulties that are at the heart of DCD can vary significantly for each of us. I try to share my experience and to attend to what others share of theirs and avoid ...

Re: GP
I tried the fish oil supplements - I forget the name right now - I never felt any benefit. What I think helps is regular sleep and excercise - both of which are no longer part of my routine - so I find myself writing when I am tired and it is in the middle of the night - I rarely leave my home or do...

Re: I have dyspraxia and I struggle with maths
This has been a really helpful thread for me as I have never thought about my ability with mathematics in relation to my dyspraxia/DCD. I now struggle for brevity but to expand a little. I am seventy - attended a UK Secondary modern school having failed the 11+ due to the number of post-war children...

Re: explaining dyspraxia to family or not?
Yes -sometimes one does not know when to speak and when not to sometime - I just try to accept that folks who do not feel like me may not understand how I feel.
I am pleased not to be the only over sixty bod here. I am 69 for about another week or so.

Re: Lost in Dyspraxia
Welcome alb24.
It took a few years after I suspected Dyspraxia before I had confirmation.
I recognise the concerns expressed and am relived that my dyspraxic daughter has become an independent adult.
I hope posting here will give an outlet for your concerns.
Thank you.

Re: Hello, I'm new
Oh welcome country girl - I was diagnosed when I was 50. I suspect Pete Guest may be interested if you write up your experiences of becoming an agricultural worker - have you seen the magazine he writes? http://www.dyspraxialifemagazine.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/cropped-NEWWW-LOGO-1.png You c...

Re: Chopping and peeling
Good points. Doing things with a child, especially where there is already mutual respect, love and protective caring may also be an opportunity to help a child understand, that even dyspracics are whole people with strengths as well as challenges, like most folk. It must be of use for a growing gene...

Re: Chopping and peeling
I guess like most things the more we do it the easier it gets. I am old and grew up being expected, wanting to help in the kitchen, back in the 1950 s and being expected to stir the whatever it was so it really became natural and most cooking involved raw materials, though we did have custard powder...
