Re: Taking Things Literally

It's a conundrum for many of us as we're often frightened to show our true selves due to previous negative experiences. While your identity is to an extent influenced by your friends and family and others around you, it is yours and you can choose what you choose to like or dislike. Remember your co...

Re: No diagnosis

Hi Yas and welcome. Glad you've found us . You really are no idiot, even though dyspraxia does have a strong tendency to leaving you feeling/looking like one at the most inopportune moments. Depending on your employer it may be worth speaking to your boss, HR or staff representative about the difficu...

Re: No NHS service for dyspraxia in adulthood

Hi again Jules Please do feel free to vent here. It is a shame that if we want help we need to consider appropriating other labels and that just doesn't feel right to us. I believe we very much always feel there are others who are far more deserving (and we perhaps tend so be too unselfish for our o...

Re: Music

Fair point not everyones'ears 'are tuned' the same I find I'm quite apt to dislike certain things very intensely especially if they take me outside my comfort zone or annoy me as pointless/stupid. Such things are of course subjective. There was a Room 101t thread not long back so maybe it could be b...

Re: Hello Everyone

Hi Samantha Welcome to our community.and we're glad you've found us. Sadly not everyone we will encounter is ceaslessly patient or accepting. It is not as if you set out to deliberately insult or mislead people and if they don't have the good grace to accept your sincere apologies remember that is t...

Re: familiar with the environment

Hello again I find I'm slower when in unfamiliar territory but that is probably true of everyone though it is perhaps more so for us. Was it a test on what you'd learned on a course, or assessment as part of an interview process? What level would you say it was? basic, intermediate or advanced? Do y...

Re: Music

So why do you hate metal? I guess it can sound quite intimidating and if you've been brought up to believe it's evil your view may not be entirely objective. In my experience metal fans are often very accepting of others. There are many Rock and Metal sub genres covering a wide variation of styles. ...

Re: Hi everyone

The problem is that while we are intelligent our lack of coordination and confidence in our own abilities mean that some people are too quick to make unfair assumptions about our level of intelligence, which can be very hurtful.

Re: Welcome!

Hello Dave Thanks for introducing yourself and for caring. It sadly does seem the case that the emotional impact of dyspraxia is all too often misunderstood/overlooked. It's more than just being a bit more clumsy and awkward in a physical sense. We can feel very isolated and alone. Change and uncert...

Know the feeling I seem to often dismiss my reminder to take a lunchbreak before I head home Is starting/leaving earlier an option for avoiding worst of rush hour traffic? Could you get together with colleagues and persuade management to change policy to respect that people need and have time to tak...

Re: Anyone else bothered by scratchy labels in clothing?

Personally I find I'm generaĺly ok with labels myself but some people are more sensitive to certain textures. I can't wear itchy fabrics next to my skin and don't like feeling too warm.

Is removal by scissors an option?

Re: Repetition in your head

Hi Shacklesh and welcome I believe it can seem 'normal' for some to become overly focused on certain things that feel important. Equally we sometimes can zone out to what are others are trying to tell us, perhaps because something else is occupying our minds. Sometimes we do become overloaded and do...

Re: So I am getting an assessment

It reads like it's a pretty thorough questionnaire designed to gather a wide range of info about the respondent but don't know how typical it is or if you'll get exactly the same questionnaire. With so many of us tending to type rather than write out assignments these days, I guess handwritten docs ...
