Re: Sleeping, at my wits end, just me?

Hi, Yeah I can completely sympathise with this I've never really slept well at all I'm almost always tired, here's a few techniques if found that helped me. I read somewhere that the place you sleep should be a little like a cave so: * Keep it as empty as possible this especially goes for anything y...

Re: Obsessions

Hi,

Yeah I can relate to this being obsessive about things is a common symptom of Dyspraxia.
I'm guessing its something to do with the fact its on the autistic spectrum.

Re: Forgetting stuff

The number of times I've left my wallet on the counter in shops lately is ridiculous, I think its some kind of mental block thing I only do it when paying by card ](*,) .

Re: Job interviews

Hi Jo, From my experience I found its always been better to disclose up front, as I've said in the past I've only ever really had problems when I've tried to intentionally hide the fact. As Jim has said don't go out of your way to push the point but if they ask be open about it also try and put an e...

Hi, As Danielv says using as many of your senses as possible will stimulate different part of your brain as possible there by helping you learn more effectively. I Also found using the 20/10 rule really helped me, several studies have shown that just sitting their for hours is'nt an effective way of...

Re: disclosing information on your dyspraxia

Personally these days I always disclose straight away, I've had experience in the past were I haven't and its come back with a vengeance to bite me in the backside. The way I see it is that any good employer wont hold it against you and should be able to see past the disability to the potential, and...

Re: Anxiety

Yup, I tend to suffer from bouts of mild to moderate depression and anxiety from time to time, it a recognized symptom of dyspraxia (particularly anxiety ) so your not on your own with this. As others have mentioned id guess its to do with the general problems that dyspraxia can cause us in every da...

Re: First time user, alcohol and dyspraxia thoughts needed

I'm not sure if the affects of alcohol are different for us dyspraxics I think its just an individual thing.
I don't tend to get angry when I drink but I do find that the alcohol tends to exaggerate your mood at the time but I don think thats a dyspraxic thing.

Re: Uni

Yeah go ask for some help every uni will have a support team, you'll probably be able to get a disability support tutor to help with things like report writing and organisation of dead lines and maybe even some time dispensation. My Uni was really good with this and once they knew they bent over bac...

Re: Concentrating during long lectures

Actually I don't think this is especially a dyspraxic thing it pretty much the same for everyone. Studies have shown that even people with exceptional powers of concentration cant effectively concentrate for more than 20 or so minutes at a time, so long lectures just aren't really a very effective l...

Re: The Key is finding a guy or gal who understands.

I'd certainly be up for meeting some other Dysparaxics in real life in over 30 years I've only ever met one other Dyspraxic (that I know of) and she was my dyspraxia support tutor at uni :). That's why I joined this forum to meet others like me cos I thought I was the only one. I know it may sound l...

Re: Has anybody here recently gotten into employment?

I had a similar experience in my early 20's for over 18 months I applied for literally everything I could, must have sent out 100's of C.Vs asked in dozens of work places if jobs were going but nothing. Eventually I managed to get a Christmas job at Woolworths (remember them :) ) and it went from th...

Re: Does any one forget this and how do u rember it?

Yup I'm also always loosing my wallet and keys (among other things ), so now I'm really strict about where I put them I don't think its necessarily a dyspraxic thing though I know several people who are far worse.
