explaining dyspraxia to family or not?
I've never discussed my dyspraxia with my family because I don't believe they have the ability to grasp it, or would they believe it is something real. I'll be 63 in the coming year and disabled due to diabetes for the past two years. Two weeks ago while I was visiting, I gave my sister some helpful...

Re: Has it all gone quiet?
I don't have any ideas; I did try to suggest it in the past but it came across badly, so I won't be going there again. That being said, I hope other people will come up with some effective ideas. Thanks for the article Tom, I didn't even know about the magazine. I'm enjoying it.

Re: Has it all gone quiet?
Excellent question Andrew. I've been trying to ask the same thing--but it always comes out wrong. I wish I had a clue. Please let me know if you come up with something

Re: Could dyspraxia be caused by stress?
No. General cognitive ability is impaired by stress, some of the symptoms of which could mimic any condition, but no dyspraxia is not caused by stress

Re: Family don't understand me
I tried some years ago to tell my family about my ADD and my dyspraxia. They never got it, and never will. I don't bother anymore, and they've dismissed/forgotten it. I don't bother trying anymore. It can be a very lonely place.

I used to be completely overwhelmed by such exercises. very anxious that they would call for something I couldn't do well and that I'd be publicly embarrassed. Still am

Re: Dyspraxia Awareness Week
I never heard of a dyspraxia awareness week before in my life. I am wondering why all of the literature and online information appears to be so advanced in the UK as compared to the US?

Re: Doctor Who
I think it was really great that the show went as far as they had to promote an introduction to dyspraxia, especially considering the nature of the show which is for entertainment, not education.

Re: New doctor who companion will have dyspraxia
I finally got to see 'Doctor Who' because I was staying with a relative who gets BBC on her TV. While I don't care for the show at all, I thought it was really cool that they portrayed a character with dyspraxia. I'm glad that public awareness is being heightened and certainly hope this is a continu...

Re: Dancing
Reminds me of physical education class. I have never been able to perform tasks that require coordinated movement and steps. When I see people on TV doing it, I am in awe of it but also feel sad that I know I would never be able to pick up something like that.
