Re: Dyspraxia or under confidence?

Im' not at all surprised a lot of us have problems with low self-esteem - it does undermine your confidence and other people can get impatient, even if they don't mean to. Dyspraxia can be a bit of a strange old thing - even for us who have it, it can be difficult to explain. I think a lot of probl...

Re: Tell your employer!

I danced the danced of telling my work and not telling my work for months, but I have never been in a better place work wise... in soo long since I did. I told my boss and lucky for me they are soo understanding and has done more than the speciialist mental nurse to try and help me! Where as the sp...

Re: Any advice for judging road position/kerb distance?

Does anyone have any tips or tricks for judging where you are on the road or your distance from the kerb? I failed my test today and one of many issues I have is my judgement of road position. I feel like i'm steering in a perfectly straight line and am giving plenty of room to cars but i'm clearly...

Re: Teachers

I can give you the perspective of someone who was in secondary school in the late 70s and early 80s, as yet undiagnosed with dyspraxia. I was in a relatively genteel school compared, so I probably had a much better experience than most people at that time. Most of the teachers at that school genuine...

Re: How did you find out about the Dyspraxic Adults Forum?

Just stumbled upon it through google. I got diagnosed with dyspraxia when I was 17 (nearly 12 years ago... #-o ) I'd definitely categorize my issues as mild, so I occasionally forget until something comes and (sometimes literally) hits me in the face to remind me - this time it's my alignment getti...

Re: Life Expectancy For Dyspraxics

Especially in my era (b1955) growing up as a dyspraxic at time not a well known condition was as likely to lead to multiple Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACT) a known life expectancy shortener as is PTSD in combat veterans in military. However what can help change the suicidal veteran life away fr...

Re: Kayaking

I actually managed a 2.5 km "test run" in my sea kayak on Thursday on Loch Achilty - a really lovely local spot for a flat water pootle - and there were no ill effects, even after a rather ropy (but successful) roll. I'm hoping to do a one-night "mini-expedition" this coming wee...

Pre-Diabetes

I have just recently found out that I have pre-diabetes. This has come as a bit of a shock to me and most people I know. I am on the thin side (BMI 21), exercise regularly and have always been considered a bit of a food Nazi by most of my peers. :S I am wondering if there is any correlation between ...

Re: Fish oil and gluten free diets?

So - to get to the point - has anyone here tried either or both (fish oils or gluten free) and if so did you find they helped? I've been using fish oils for a while. I have also stepped up my intake of oily fish. I really don't know about dyspraxic symptoms but the increased Omega 3 intake has cert...

Re: Exercise

Yeah it's pretty rubbish eh! I think fatigue is probably the worst part of this for me as it makes everything just that bit more harder. No one understands as well why you are so tired and always out of breath. The one benefit I guess is I have always been relatively slim even before I did any exer...

Re: Exercise

I've also read that us nerodiverse folk use a shed-load more energy/brain power doing normal things than neurotypicals. This means that we need a great deal more energy than others, sourced from out diet. This may explain (at some levels) a typically low muscle tone in our bodies. That is perhaps t...

Re: Any nurses/nursing students on here?

I'm not a nurse, so I'm afraid I can't offer you any help.

It is possible that your post not been answered because there are already quite a lot of fairly recent threads on this topic. I think someone started a similar thread last week.

Re: Kayaking

The enthusiasm is still there but it hasn't resulted in much paddling in practice recently. I've been plagued with lower back problems (possibly related in part to dyspraxia) and also a lack of motivation that I'm unfortunately having to address with a (prescribed) chemical crutch. That does seem t...
