Re: Asking for reasonable accomidations...in the USA

If you can't get a good diagnosis about dyspraxia I'm sure you could get one for anxiety pretty easily. I think that itself would be enough for the university to provide you with a note taker, tutor, and extra time on tests. I'm guessing from your post you actually are experiencing anxiety from your...

Re: New here

Welcome! I'm also from the US. Most resources for and people with dyspraxia I find on the internet are in the UK. I think they have better awareness over there. I haven't seen my doctor yet, I'm afraid she won't even know what dyspraxia is. I talked to a friend who has a master's degree in helping p...

Welcome ichiban-no-hime! Do you like Anime? I watch a little and study Japanese for fun.

Re: Hello, I am new.

I have burnt myself, cut myself, hit my head off things accidently, I'm known at work for being "clumsy" which upsets me because I can't help it and it's not just clumsiness. I can relate, my hands are always covered in cuts, scrapes, burns, and bruises that I can't remember getting. I ha...

Re: Hello I'm new!

I'm also 28 but only recently realized I may have dyspraxia (I live in the US and had never heard of it, I'm working on a diagnosis). I've always known I have poor coordination, poor spatial awareness, sensitive to noises, get lost easily, and have excellent long term memory. I never had any idea th...

Re: Do you prefer specifics, when people ask you questions?

Similarly to small talk, when people ask "How are you?" It might be better if they ask something more specific really. They aren't actually asking how you are. It's more of a statement phrased as a question to be polite. Unfortunately you're not supposed to say anything other than "G...

Re: Eating Spaghetti

I used to think that I hated pasta, especially spaghetti. Now I realize I'm just really embarrassed to eat it in front of other people because of how sloppy I am.

Re: Can you swim?

I can barely swim. I would say I couldn't swim until I was 25 and got some patient one on one instruction. I haven't done it in awhile so I'm not sure if I still can, I'm 28.

Re: Dyspraxics with university degrees

BSc in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. Organic Chem, Calculus, and College Trig were very difficult. A lot of other classes were easy. I didn't know I had dyspraxia in college so I didn't have any sort of help or accommodation.

Re: Do you run funny?

Wonder if there's a correlation between dyspraxia and long distance running Maybe. I'm an OK endurance athlete but pretty bad at ball sports. Unfortunately I think I have bad running technique. I was training for a marathon and ended up injuring myself. That was back in 2012, I developed plantar fa...

Re: Welcome!

Hi I am a 28 year old woman working on getting a diagnosis. I'm always known I was clumsy and "different." I've always felt like I wasn't naturally good at anything and that it takes me twice the effort to get half the results as other people. I grew up in the US, I don't think dyspraxia i...
