Re: Table manners / food issues
I tend to have a death grip on burgers and the like and they seem to fall apart in my hands, not to mention the mess I can make. I don't do chopsticks either. Personally I would say I eat too fast and find trying to slow down helps a bit. An intense dislike of certain textures is not uncommon. If yo...

Re: trying to help my dyspraxic brother
You're welcome. If you didn't care you wd never have bothered to ask here. So thank you. Perceptions are just that and your motive was admirable. If you decide it would be worth pointing him here to this site we can always remove this thread at some future point. We guys, Dyspraxic or otherwise, are...

Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD)
This thread seeks to discuss Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD), which has been mentioned by a few people here. I’m not in anyway medically qualified and I must admit I’m unclear on the relationship between Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) and Dyspraxia and if they are two separate Neurological cond...

Re: trying to help my dyspraxic brother
I think it is worth drawing out that we're often our own harshest critics and while we might sometimes appear hard or uncaring to some, inside we're privately very frightened and worried that we can never convince ourselves or others that we can be competent and will somehow mess up any chances we'r...

Re: Finding a hobby(for dyspraxics!!!)
Hi
I really think this needs to be driven by what you are personally interested in and needs to push the boundaries of your dyspraxia and other constraints as much as possible.
By all means start a thread on hobbies in the Lounge section here or look back at previous ones for some inspiration.

Re: trying to help my dyspraxic brother
It would be all too easy to judge but that isn't likely to help this situation and I don't know your brother. Disclosing is all well and good if an employer is willing to understand your version of dyspraxia and will work with you to help you become a useful employee. I'm sure deep down your brother...

Re: Welcome!
Hi and welcome It can feel very emasculating especially if you naturally compare yourself to others. I've really struggled with dating relationships and loneliness. Visual impairment and not driving hasn't helped either but I'm reasonably self reliant determined and independent.. My coping strategy ...

Re: Any other parents worry they get it wrong?
Please don't be afraid to ask for help and support and advice from health professionals/other parents/family. You are in no way a bad parent. Your worries and fears are understandable so please don't beat yourself up. Any parent in the same boat would have similar worries and fears so please try not...

Re: Dyspraxic or just a bit clumsy/disorganised
Hi Redfraggle Dyspraxia is really quite a difficult condition to define but there is a wide spectrum of ability/diffuculty and not everyone will tick all the boxes in all areas. It's also possible to develop coping strategies that mitigate or overcome areas of difficulty. Clumsiness, coordination is...

Re: Environment/Sound Sensitivity
Doesn't sound that crazy 8-). While we're all induviduals switching from one state to another can be tricky.
I find it quite hard to switch off or let go sometimes. No Zen like state for me but wish I could be better at stopping and taking a step back as intense is quite exhausting

Re: Does anyone else go through phases like this?
I do go through periods where I am more discombobulated than others. If I'm tired or lots of things are going on or a big thing is going on. I don't know if this is just normal stress and tiredness or dyspraxia though. I think it's probabpy true to say that Dyspraxia and stress and tiredness go han...
