Re: Insensitive family members

it's sometimes said that people can behave harshly towards others who display the same things that they most dislike about themselves. If I ever have children and any of them has dyspraxia, I'm determined to support and encourage them. So much of this thread really resonates with my experiences. Sa...

Re: VITAL TO HAVE A COMPLETE UNDERSTANDING OF DYSPRAXIA

Really interesting discussion I'm not sure I'd be keen to go and get a diagnosis that I was Autistic or had Aspergers as feel that Dyspraxia is unique. While there are crossovers I think it would be inappropriate and may expose people to the stigmas felt by those members of society who are judged to...

Re: Repeating the last decade

Good point Tim We need to understand why things didn't work but equally not beat ourselves up about them (not easy) Recognising what we are good at and where we have potential is the key. Planning is key even though we sometimes want to throw ourselves in at the deep-end in order to get results quic...

Re: Insensitive family members

Hi AlleyCat Sounds like a horrid situation and I wish I knew the answer. I sometimes feel my brother has got better treatment and I have protested but generally it does seem to fall on deaf ears. Fortunately I'd say I have the better job though I still live at home and he has a flat and is rather th...

Re: Repeating the last decade

I think it needs to be a case of 'from this day forward'. I too am much better at dwelling on my perceived failures. I think it is very much a case of asking people who like and respect you to help you recognise your own qualities and work from there. Don't let those (inc yourself, if applicable) ju...

Re: Depression meds

Hi Its impossible or at very least difficult to know how your doctor will react. Obviously he has have access to your records and knows you better. I'm assuming he'll need to be convinced you are depressed rather than suffering from say anxiety. It's possible he might refer you for counselling first...

Re: Are dyspraxic's deluded?

How do you define delusional?

I'm not sure we can be any more deluded from the next man or woman. delusion being a false belief or impression, or a vain hope. maybe some of us are more susceptible but maybe we need hopes to cling too. We're fortunately a long way from being preachers of hate!

Re: Finding love

Thanks Hanna I shall try. Good day today as had really nice walk through woods around where I live and had a jolly good laugh at Benidorm too. I think it can be an effect of our dyspraxic ways in that we're often very caring people and aren't always good at being multi faceted? or being able to chan...

Re: Mac or PC?

I would say that if they feel you need any sort of special software that's quite likely going to be Windows only. Me I'm Mac all the way and I don't have any problems getting it to do what I want it to as far as internet, Word processing etc to a standard I'm happy with as a perfectionist. That said...

Re: Finding love

good advice but not exactly that practical when you have dyspraxic issues. I do try though as I'm a determined type and just can't sit idly by But we're all affected especially when things get on top of us.

Re: do people notice dyspraxia

I agree in my experience some people are aware that I'm different but I don't think very many people at all could put a name to it unless they are already aware/have experience. While learning about dyspraxia was a good thing in some ways I don't like to advertise it as there just doesn't seem to be...

Re: How to 'come out' as dyspraxic if you're not a typical c

Hi Lemming I've got a relatively mild visual impairment and have also been recognised as having Dyspaxic tendencies. I'm usually pretty capable until things are beyond my control. I'm also affected by low self esteem. It can be a double edged sword but I would suggest seeking advice from The Employm...

Re: Climbing fences

It may not always be dignified but if you can bring a bit of entertainment and a unique style that's great! There's a comedy film called Sex Lives of the Potato Men in which British comedian Johnny Vegas decides to try and vault a pedestrian barrier in order to cross the road. He ends up falling ove...

Re: Support with politics

Sorry essay, long time since I did any real study and I live in UK so admit I know very little about Irish politics so am looking at question as if it was applied to UK system. I think you'll get there but do try to put yourself in the place of different sections of the population too. ie you have t...
