Re: Finding a job
I actually left the country to find work. I did have a job for a while and then quit due to poor working conditions. I moved to the Netherlands to get my masters but now no place I want to work in (medical field, lecturing, etc) will accept me because I don't speak dutch - I'm learning to speak it. ...

Re: Advice - Dyspraxic son
Thank you, I really appreciate the reply. We do excersises with him and we also do a fair amount of solo sport like golf and trampolining (recomended by a paediatrician). You’ve given me some food for thought and I think backed up my thought that he needs to understand that his brain works differen...

Re: Advice - Dyspraxic son
Hi So I knew from a young age I was different and I started getting discouraged from playing from the time I hit primary school. I kept getting asked by everyone what was wrong or why I couldn't just do something like running, walking straight or cutting properly. I only found out now that I'm 23 th...

Re: Finding a job
Your comment about my mom made me laugh. My dad calls her a schizo (as in split/mulitple minds) because she constantly goes on random rampages then randomly flips the story to the exact opposite. She never remembers the awful stuff she's said to me. Actually... there's plenty trade deals with Russia...

Re: Finding a job
My mom has told me from a young age that I've been a burden and she wished I wasn't born because I trapped her here in South Africa................. I got offered a job like yesterday travelling and creating curriculums for schools world wide and it seems like an amazing opportunity so I'm thinking...

Re: Finding a job
It's a shame that your mother can't be more supportive. It seems to me that she wants you to take on the responsibility of being an adult, but she also still acting as if you have only the knowledge of a child. Her attitude is counter-productive, to say the least. Anyway, reading your post I have a...

Re: Finding a job
"Why can't you just be a waiter?" "Why can't you just be a bartender?" I really hate that phrase 'why don't/can't you just ...?'. It's usually the mark of a know-it-all, who hasn't put much thought into the matter at all! The other one I hate is "for such an intelligent gir...

Re: Finding a job
Hi Lila, I don't drive either, and I used to have the same arguments with my sister. She used to harass me about being a waiter? "Why can't you just be a waiter?" "Why can't you just be a bartender?" It's maddening to have to try to explain that to someone who is not dyspraxic. ...

Re: Finding a job
Hi Lila and welcome . Thank you also for your thoughtful contributions to others' posts here. I don't drive either and working in food service/kitchen really would be a disaster for me too so have always avoided. Has your Mom been able to make any sensible suggestions or at least be mindful that th...

Re: Daily living
I got to points of being purely exhausted where doing anything was too much. Even making food was impossible. I was on antidepressants but I wasn't able to take them regularly so I just ended up with a bunch of side effects - one if them being shakiness so that made it all the worse. The only thing ...

Finding a job
So I'm finding it really difficult to get work as a lot of the job opportunities in my country require that I have reliable transport or a driver's licence. Given where I'm staying there are no bus routes or trains, etc. I'm relying on my boyfriend at the moment to drive and drop my places but he ha...

Re: Burnout
There is definitely burn out with dyspraxia. You have to try so much harder than the average person to do things so you will get tired a lot more easily and this is made worse if you also have sensory processing problems. You will need a lot more breaks and more sleep especially if you expect to jus...

Re: Moved in with partner
From her passionate rantings and irritability and sensitivity it sounds like she may be on the autism spectrum - even if it is mild. I only say this because she has a son with aspergers and it is known to be hereditary. Try not taking her outbursts personally and read the book for partners from Rudy...
