Re: % of people with dyspraxia who have aspergers traits (ASD traits) or asperger syndrome (ASD)

I was diagnosed with HFA (High Functioning Autism) years ago when they were a seperate diagnosis. I think know its just classed as Autistic Spectrum Disorder so regardless of whether your classic with severe learning difficulties, HFA (without) or Asperger's (with or without) you're just classed as ...

Re: A refreshingly good article about Neurodivesity and Lockdown

Thats really interesting. particuarly where the last person mentioned 'intense exhaustion from social contact' It takes me about a day to recover from having visitors for a couple of hours or me going out to visit family for a couple of hours. i assumed it was from physical effort of speaking for se...

Re: Dyspraxia sensory processing versus ASD processing versus ADHD processing

I was told I had autism once (many years ago) though I think my speech problems that I've had since childhood are verbal dyspraxia. I also have always had mild balance and co-ordination issues (could walk but never mastered swimming, ice skating, driving etc). I was a teen before mastering some fine...

Re: Covid 19. Updated

Hi I'm loving lockdown too simply due to no social pressure. I've told some people I'm in shielded group to get a break from social expectation to allow them to visit. I do have some conditions that can affect the immune system so I have been careful and only taking my dog out very early when no-one...

misdiagnosed years ago

Hi again I've been doing much more research and I'm convinced I was misdiagnosed years ago. I definitely have congenital hypothyroidism from birth which I have been on medication for all my life. However this wasn't discovered until I was 23 MONTHS old (I was born in the 60's when I guess they didn'...

Re: Is Anyone Sensitive To Noise or Odors?

you should have a read of these posts I found about hypersensitive hearing. I found two great articles. one was a case study of a guy who was actually found to have hearing loss even though he'd put his fridge in a shed outside so he couldn't hear it hum and boarded up windows. There is a condition ...

Re: Is Anyone Sensitive To Noise or Odors?

I can tell when my neighbours in her garden as soon as I open my back door as she wears her perfume so strong! Hate having to get in cars when people are picking me up to go out as they often have strong aftershave/perfumes on and the radio blaring out, with the car engine going and them talking it'...

Re: Hello from Dublin

Hello I had developmental delays in childhood and was late in walking etc. I think because in my instance they believed it was because they hadn't found my thyroid wasn't working until I was nearly two so I was given quite intensive physio to 'catch up' (as I couldn't even sit up unsupported at 23 m...

Re: Should this forum have a paralell Facebook Group?

I prefer to type I have speech problems. I also have autism and due to this have auditory processing disorder so struggle with processing speech and facial expressions, particuarly with strangers. Also with time lag on video (my BB slow) it's impossible to lip read/understand signs.

I left FB and closed account.

Why can't you have a private chatroom on the site like some other sites have?

Re: Talking to people in my head

I think the MD is more intense than that it's not just daydreaming to work out how to solve practical solutions they often have an intense fantasy worlds with different characters. Some even become those characters to deal with real life. They might create multiple characters and be a different char...

Anyone need mobility aids?

Does anyone else use mobility aids? I find 2 crutches really hard to co-ordinate but don't always have the balance (depends on how uneven the ground is) to manage with one and though rollators are fine where its flat and level they're hard work on uneven surfaces also. I have to use a wheelchair if ...

Re: Dyspraxic speech

yes I realise it's going to be no easy task as its a developmental delay and I'm now heading for 50. I have always had difficulties with balance/co-ordination issues and social skills. I didn't realise that social difficulties were also a part of dyspraxia on its own (ie without having autism sepera...

Dyspraxic speech

I have always had problems getting words out since childhood. I remember overhearing someone talking about my speech problems once when I was older and it stuck with me, they explained to the other person "you know when you take a breath and then speak? ... well Susan tries to speak on the in A...
