Re: The Dreaded Team Building Exercise!

Thanks for the responses - it is reassuring to know that I am not over-reacting by being nervous about it! It brings up all kinds of memories from school and the fear of being humiliated in front of everyone. Hopefully it will not be as bad as expected - if nothing else it will be over before too mu...

The Dreaded Team Building Exercise!

Does anyone have any tips for coping with team building exercises? We have an away day coming up and been told there will be obstacles, team games and 3D puzzles.... needless to say I am dreading it! ](*,) I've managed to avoid these kinds of things fairly well since school but can't avoid it this t...

Re: Views of and experiences with the Dyspraxia Foundation

Hi Tom, Yes I don't mean to sound critical - for me 'thinking, speaking and moving in a clumsy and disorganised fashion' pretty much sums me up lol. I am glad to have the resource they offer, it is definitely valuable. I've had a look at the Hidden Assets guide you mentioned now too, which I did lik...

Re: Dyspraxia Awareness Week

Thanks for all your responses - sorry I have been so slow responding! I have been reading but couldn't sign into my account due to forgetting my password - sorted now though!

My theme has really been about compassion, including self-compassion. We can all be too hard on ourselves at times!

Re: working long hours

I used to have a job that required standing for most of the day - I can't say it ever got easy, but it did get easier as I kept at it and my stamina increased. That said, I second Andrew's suggestion to think about reasonable adjustments. Is there anything that you would find helpful? For me, I'd as...

Re: I’ve just been diagnosed.

I get achy joints and my wrist and arm hurt when I'm writing - apparently this is because I tense my muscles too much and therefore working against myself when I write... not figured out how to change that though so am just glad for my laptop! I found The Dyspraxic Learner: Strategies for Success by...

Re: Dissertation Research - Dyspraxia, Mental Wellbeing and Vocational Experiences

What are your thoughts/ experiences on dyspraxia's relation with mental wellbeing? In short - complex! On the one hand, I've always felt different, awkward, even broken, and self-conscious over not being great at "simple" tasks - especially in childhood/adolescence. That self-consciousnes...

Dyspraxia Awareness Week

Hi all, So as it's Dyspraxia Awareness Week next week, I was wondering: a) How others feel about the awareness week in general - are you glad it's there, indifferent, unaware of it, just generally if it matters to you? b) If anyone is doing or taking part in any awareness-raising activity? c) If any...

Re: Views of and experiences with the Dyspraxia Foundation

I'm a bit late in replying sorry but I have quite mixed feelings about the DF. Yes they can be quite child-focused but I can see they are making a real effort to be more inclusive of their adult membership. The problem I find is that I don't really feel there is that much detail/substance to a lot o...

Wow, thanks for sharing this - and well done you! Really inspiring to hear what you've accomplished with perseverance. I am just starting to look at trying to get fit again and it is daunting so this was great timing for me!

Re: Why am I so socially awkward

Hi Chris, I can relate to a lot of what you describe - especially thinking of things to say to people I've not met before (or even have met before!) and how to articulate a conversation. Often I'll realise later that I accidentally said something rude or shut the conversation down, or worry that I c...

Re: I never thought I'd 'get' it - but I just passed my test. Thoughts for other learners inside. [Automatic - UK]

Thanks Lucy! Did you pass manual or automatic? I stuck it out with manual - the gear changes were ok for me (I think probably due to years of playing musical instruments with each hand doing different things), it was things like knowing how far I was from other objects and being able to judge the s...

Re: I never thought I'd 'get' it - but I just passed my test. Thoughts for other learners inside. [Automatic - UK]

Congratulations! It is such a great feeling to pass your test. I don't know the exact number of hours it took me but it was over at least 2 years and definitely a lot more than 50 - probably nearer 200. I seem to remember reading that 47 is about average but I could have completely made that up to m...
