I am struggling with my DCD advice please?

Hi everyone, I am going to list a few symptoms that have been occurring on and off the last few weeks. Even though these have been on and off for years particularly worse since last October as I've mentioned before. Recently I have been experiencing a lot of past traumas, flooding back into my mind,...

What do you think about getting charged for assessments?

Hi everyone, this topic has came to mind in the last few days and I'd like to discuss and share my opinion. As we know some people who assess for dyspraxia in the UK want to charge something like £300 I believe, or around that price per assessment, please correct me if I'm wrong. In my opinion witho...

Walking faster than running?

Does anyone else here find they can walk faster than they can run? I have no problem walking fast but I've never been able to actually run fast and trying to I just stomp my feet everytime. I thought it was down to being unfit or something when I was younger or eating sweets but other kids never see...

Re: I get more upset about having hypochondroplasia more than others?

Hi 'music l22'. I dont think your reactions and feelings are anything to do with dypraxia but rather there 'normal' human feelings. I dont like tosay normal cos what is normal? If the norm is that people are a certain size saying those who are not the norm are 'abnormal' sounds derogatory..calling ...

Re: I get more upset about having hypocondraplasia more than others?

I honestly don't know if it has anything to do with dyspraxia or not. I just find it incomprehensible that in this day and age people can be so cruel and insensitive. Though I do remember many years ago walking down the street and seeing a kid taunting a man with a similar situation. Fortunately an...

Re: Do you become less dyspraxic the older you get?

That's an interesting question, it's a bit tricky to answer. I think you may become a bit less dyspraxic as you grow up and develop because you're developing mentally and physically up to adulthood. So as you are growing up you may be able to do some tasks with a bit more ease. I was told when I was...

I like it, I like the piano instrumental at the beginning also. I like to try and play keyboard which I've also put online.

Drawstrings

Hi everyone, does anyone else here have severe problems with drawstrings? First of all when I was in my mid to late teens I always wore a drawstring bag everywhere I went, this was all well and good but I never adjusted them. So if I wore it too long or something heavy was in the bag it would feel l...

Re: Tidying up and messing everything up?

Normally I just struggle with opening the bottle in the first instance, as I tend not to tighten things too much. :) See, that's very sensible! But if I don't tighten the pop bottle, the pop goes flat! Better that the pop goes flat than my hand becomes permanently flat due to me crushing it in the ...

I find it hard to twist it against the metal, very stiff I'm left handed. It results in pain and sometimes can't even open the can fully so I end up having to chuck stuff out!

Re: Finding clothing too tight when it actually isn't?

I probably tend towards looser garments but thankfully I'm a guy and don't have to contend with bras or heels. I tend to look a bit dishevelled and am funny about textures/being too warm due to my eczema. Equally I like to haveclothes with good and plentiful pockets but at times I end up in a panic...

Re: Why are people so ignorant regarding dyspraxia ? Giving up on getting a diagnosis

About a decade ago I talked to my then psychiatric care coordinator about my problems. She arranged an extra appointment with the pdoc having told him she'd told me dyspraxia was hard to diagnose. The appointment with the pdoc was a disaster. He asked a couple of irrelevant questions before curtly ...

Early infant school memories

Hi everyone the thought occurred to me that I should share and document the following: In infant school I was constantly getting told off for not spelling properly. This made me burst out crying. I was shaky at anxious all the time and very miserable. At the time I considered the 1990's as 'Dull'. I...

Re: Why are people so ignorant regarding dyspraxia ? Giving up on getting a diagnosis

Thank you for the information, I've actually made a folder where I'm documenting everything I'm concerned about in the event I get anywhere.

I've noted down the timing issues on the keyboard and the fingers twisting.

I was going to say something else but I can't remember! Oh dear!

If a formal diagnosis cannot be made...

Hi everyone, I am still in the process of getting a formal diagnosis for dsypraxia. I now understand how difficult it can be to get an overall assessment, meaning covering all aspects/ characteristics of the disorder. I recently downloaded the dsypraxia book, a lot of it really hits home and makes m...
