Re: Exhausted from work

I'm often exhausted when I come home from work too. I'm fortunate at the moment to live with my parents who cook dinner for me, because I rarely have the energy to do anything that requires standing up until after I've eaten!

Re: Views of and experiences with the Dyspraxia Foundation

I've just started following the Dyspraxia Foundation on twitter, however beyond that I've never engaged with them. A few reasons why: (apologies for the length of the first one) -Until I was job hunting post university I hated thinking of myself as 'dyspraxic.' My Mum used the label to be extremely ...

Re: Asking for reasonable adjustments at job interviews

I've never worked out what constitutes 'reasonable' adjustments. Like OP I struggle with interviews, I only got my current job after a year of failed interviews. It was a pretty formal interview that I passed but being a year after I first started interviewing I had rehearsed my standard answers eno...

Re: Better writer than speaker

I'm not always the most coherant speaker either as I sometimes struggle to think as quickly as I speak. I'm particularly rubbish when asked something unexpected for the first time- in that case I need space to think about how I'm going to reply - the kind of space not afforded on a phonecall or face...

Re: I cant use any transport.

I can't drive- I had a few lessons back when I was 17 and was so bad my instructor gave up on me. My lessons were in a manual and as well as struggling with trying to steer, peddle, change gears and look where I was going at once I also struggled keeping my foot steady on the accelerator peddle. I c...

Re: Answering the phone?

I'm fine with actually answering the phone and taking a message for someone- I always make sure to write it down and I'm not afraid to ask the person on the end of the phone to repeat something if I haven't got part of the message. However I do often struggle if the call is for me and the person on ...

Re: How are you at cooking?

Not very good. It takes me forever to chop food so something supposedly basic like spag bol is v difficult for me. I find pre- prepared meat with sauce, pre chopped potatoes with garnish e.c.t although a bit more expensive a lifeline. Currently enjoying being back with my Mum who cooks dinner every ...

Re: The ice after the snow

Honestly, last time it snowed I didn't manage. I had to ask people for a hand which was embarrasing. This time thankfully the snow has been washed away by rain so no icey stage. I'm seriously considering investing in a pair of walking boots with proper grippy soles for the next time it snows though.

Re: Anyone had any contact with Occupational Therapy ?

Yeah I absolutely hated having to do things I knew most kids didn't. In terms of the service, first off someone came to my house, that was definitley private and then when I got older I went to a centre run by a Jewish charity (I'm Jewish). Not sure if they charged for that or not. Weird fact: I bel...

Anyone else struggle with job interviews?

Hi all, new here. Just a bit of background info: was diagnosed with dyspraxia aged around 4/5. Always hated the label though. Anyway to my main point: job interviews. I really struggle with them. It took me 8 to get the job I have now and I've had 2 failed ones since. Thankfully I've done pretty wel...

Re: Anyone had any contact with Occupational Therapy ?

I had a lot of OT when I was younger (around 5-11 years) which my Mum arranged. Whilst I believe they did help with me with things like writing and using cutlery I absolutely hated going and am still mentally traumatised from the appointments.

Re: Dyspraxia and vestibular system: dizzy

I get very dizzy and lightheaded standing on the spot for too long. I'd never thought it might be connected to being dyspraxic though.

Re: Does anyone else break zips and tangle up earphones?

Yes and yes! Re zips I've broken zips on several bags, had to get shopkeepers help me out when I wanted to buy something and couldn't get my purse out because I'd jammed the zip. Don't wear coats with zips any more so thankfully no issues there, just buttons that fall off which I have to ask my Mum ...
