Re: New Netflix program about neurodiversity

I only saw the one episode where Ryan was unable to learn to ride a bike. I didn't realize that he was an ongoing character.

Re: New Netflix program about neurodiversity

The main character actually has cerebral palsy, affecting muscle coordination, eye/hand coordination, short term memory, and difficulty with both workplace and social issues. Many of the issues addressed are the same as those that we dyspraxics go through, from tying shoe laces to putting together f...

Re: Finding a hobby(for dyspraxics!!!)

Hi, I have the same problem, with knitting that is. I have found that raising orchids is very satisfying, but you will probably need more than that to keep you occupied. It does depend very much on what interests you personally

Re: Is it really worth confirming I have dyspraxia?

firemonkey, we are the same age and I agree completely. I was determined to be tested about two years ago when I first found out about it, and then I thought for what? I even ran it by a psychiatrist who said,"well, it's a little late to be worried about it now." Granted he was a jerk, but at the en...

Re: Dyspraxia and Metabolic Disorders?

American journal articles seem to link it to obesity and propensity toward type 2 diabetes. Ostensibly, because of poor muscle coordination, lack of athletic ability, and tendency to be overweight. There is very little research though here in the US, was wondering if anyone knows of any British prof...

Re: Is Anyone Sensitive To Noise or Odors?

I can't even take the bright sunshine in summer; even with sunglasses. Smells in summer are much stronger too---can't take the historical section of town in summer because they have horse drawn carriages, which means the smell of horse s***. I also hate the smell of cologne. A few years ago I bought...

Being more of a community

I was just wondering how we might be more of a community and of greater support to each other. I've never been good at mobilizing or organizing. I don't know if that;s a dyspraxia thing or not.

Dyspraxia and Metabolic Disorders?

I've raised this issue before, but thought perhaps I'd raise it again. There is some preliminary research that indicates a connection between dyspraxia and metabolic disorders in the US. One theory is that this is due to poor physical coordination and dislike of of athletic activity. My nephew is dy...

Re: Getting credited for what you know

I can relate to most of this. Spent most of my life trying to aim low instead of thinking about what I'd really like to do with it. Although, back in those days no had ever heard of dyspraxia, in the US, there was no internet, and if you were diagnosed as anything it would probably have been what Am...

Re: Anger and Difficulty Letting go

Thanks. It's true, I also am like a dog with a bone when i feel I'm being disrespected or when my time is wasted, and there is no acknowledgment of that. But you are right, these people do have the power to end the phone call and one does end up with a 'reputation' that makes you about as famous as ...

Anger and Difficulty Letting go

I have difficulty with anger and letting go of things, particularly when talking on the phone with 'customer service' representatives, particularly when I'm dealing with incompetence and what I believe to be unfair or disrespectful behavior. When I encounter this behavior I raise my voice and become...

Re: Dyspraxia Learing to drive

This is a tough one. I learned to drive when I was 18 and lived in the suburbs. Spatial awareness, and parallel parking was not an issue and I only drove where it was easy to drive--straight roads. In my 20's I moved to a large city where driving is not for the faint-of-heart. In fact, if the reclke...

Re: cannot think

I think that neurotypical people have better ego strength than we dyspraxics. After all, developmentally there were so many things we either couldn't do or that required a great deal of practice and time and effort on others' part in order for us to learn something that came quickly to others. If a ...
