Re: working long hours

thank you all for you kind suggestions i suppose I am in a lucky situation that i'm in a fairly flexible working environment. no one can tell me off for leaving at 5 but i do feel pressurised to stay later. we do have stalls in the lab, not many, and i sit down when writing my lab book, but when i'm...

working long hours

I have recently started a chemistry PhD. lab work requires me to stand on my feet all day. unlike my last department people at my new uni seem to work long hours (eg 8am to 6pm) but by 4pm I am absolutely exhausted and i am really struggling to keep up with other people. i believe that this may be d...

Re: People who call me "buddy"

I've never been great with over-familiarity either, especially when people tap me unexpectedly, but I've learnt to adapt. I don't actually think it is meant in a patronising way necessarily , but it's hard to determine without having witnessed it, of course. the term has always bothered me but more...

People who call me "buddy"

I don't know if its just me or not but I absolutely detest being called "buddy" it is incredibly patronising ](*,) ](*,) . I don't know if I am just being overly sensitive but, I think because of my dyslexia and dyspraxia, but i sometimes feel people think i am a bit dumb. Which makes me rather sens...

Re: What do non-dyspraxic people think about the dyspraxic ?

i often think others think i' stupid because i am a bit awkward, disorganised, not very independent and childish hand writing even though i think i am rather intelligent.

Re: Dyspraxia and lab work

Since i created this post i started working in a research lab, it's much less busy and I can go in at any time so i can do things at my own pace and write things in my lab book when i want, no rush. i haven't bought a rebel printer yet as i fear the labels wouldn't be solvent resistant, the hand wri...

Re: Teachers

ok, so i will give my contribution from a more recent prospective. I was diagnosed with dyslexia and dyspraxia at aged 7 in 2003, my state primary school didn't really know how to deal with me, they didn't treat me badly as such (although i can think back now to a few negative experiences that may h...

Re: Dyspraxia and lab work

Great news! How are you doing in the class now? For the record I have a BSc in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. After university I worked in a chemistry lab for five years. My recommendations are to RECORD EVERYTHING in your lab notebook, mark samples carefully, and take your time. If someone is ...

Awareness of dyspraxia

I am really fed up with the lack of acknowledgement, understanding and lack of recognition of dyspraxia. does anyone have any ideas how i could personally help to raise awareness of the conditions?
