Re: Lexxic

I don't think a standard questionnaire is necessarily a bad thing, assuming it is followed up by a one-to-one assessment. I was assessed by Dyspraxia UK and had quite a lot of paperwork to do before meeting the assessor. This was hard going, but it got me thinking about issues that I hadn't realised...

Re: Has anyone with dyspraxia passed first aid?

An excellent question. I've done (and passed) more First Aid courses than I can recall, but have never had to give major First Aid in a real situation and always feel very uncertain that I would cope with the processing required to deal, say, with a multi-casualty incident. Has anyone here done so, ...

Re: Do you become less dyspraxic the older you get?

In a word, no. But we do develop coping strategies as we get older, and our improved self-knowledge helps us to anticipate what we are likely to do in a given situation. All this coping is increasingly tiring and I really have to work hard to try and pace myself, which as an active person who loves ...

Re: Views of and experiences with the Dyspraxia Foundation

I have also messaged the DF about the forum in the past in the hope it could be flagged to their membership and would hopefully thus increase participation and posts here. To be fair to the Dyspraxia Foundation, when I joined they sent me a list of useful web links, one of which was to this forum. ...

Trying to do too much

Hello everybody and sorry for a long radio silence. I've missed this forum but as the post title may hint at, have been spinning too many plates. Under the "Learning, thought and memory" heading, the Dyspraxia Foundation list of adult symptoms contains the following: "May do only one thing at a time...

Re: Looking for advice to improve balance and co-ordination.

Hi thisismewithamask, Do you enjoy any sort of ball game at all? I know many dyspraxics are not good at these, dislike them and avoid them at all costs. But equally, if you are partial to ball games, even if not much good at them, doing a lot them is a great way of improving balance and co-ordinatio...

Re: This place seems dead

Hi Firemonkey, To be fair, I think the forum is more lively now than it was in October / November that seemed a very quiet time indeed. I would say - don't get disheartened if one of your posts doesn't get a response for a while. As someone else said, we can be quite a shy / reticent bunch, and also...

Re: What do non-dyspraxic people think about the dyspraxic ?

Hi ákveðni, I think the answer depends on a number of things. Age for a start. Those under 25 - or perhaps 30 - seem to be more educated about dyspraxia and often nod knowingly when I tell them I'm on the spectrum. If older than this, I'm often met with a blank stare and, as I'm sure you know, it's ...

Re: I am a musician!!!

Why if I have dyspraxia (and a specialist just suggested I do) do I have good fine motor skills and was I for a long time a professional musician? (Cello). I find this to be a very interesting post. I also am a musician though scarcely professional. My fine motor co-ordination is poor - bottom 7% f...

Re: Answering the phone?

I agree with most of the above - my last (nearly) full-time job as an employee was in a small open-plan office where 3 - 4 people could be on the phone at the same time - a dyspraxic's nightmare! I also have problems remembering to phone people, related to short-term memory I think (and perhaps a bi...

Re: Movie characters who might be dyspraxic

I've never seen Local Hero, but I do want to watch it. It's a classic Ram - a typical Bill Forsyth film i e warm / funny. An oldie but highly recommended. I do though have a great idea for a movie title. Dyspraxic Me. I honestly thought that existed, but must have been wishful thinking on my part ;...

Re: Experiencing frustration

I sometimes feel like when I mention my learning disability as a reason for doing certain things that people think I'm either making it up or trying to use it as a trump card. This is causing me frustration because all I'm asking is that people understand that I'm much more susceptible to make mist...
