Re: Are there any other PhD students with Dyspraxia? I'm looking to start an informal mutual support meet up

Hello, Has anyone in this group started a PhD and taken a break? I had started research but took a break and now feel like I can't return. I don't know if I am not able to complete my work because of the dyspraxia. I just mess up courses even though I try really hard, my hard work does not pay off ...

Re: Ways to increase attention span

Hello, I've seen similar questions but not the same one as I'm about to ask. In school, I don't have a hard time understanding things ( I was in the humanities. Don't ask me about technology or geometry- that's a completely different story. ). Rather, I have a very difficult time planning and organ...

Re: Appearing confident

I received feedback from a job interview, saying that I was unsuccessful because I did not have the "strong social qualities" needed for the role, and that my body language and reduced eye contact suggested that I was not comfortable. Does anyone have any advice for how I can appear more ...

Re: About to get fired, need some advice.

I have been in a job for a month. I work part time as a carer, a few people have been saying I am too slow on the job, and now my manager has given me a final warning. I don't know what to do, I really need money so I cannot afford losing this job. It took me at least 8 months to get this job , so ...

Re: Did you get over your first love?

Time heals almost everything. Give time some time. It took me a while to get over my first love as well. At that time, it seems hopeless as everything seems to revolve around her at that moment. However, as you make new relationships and experiences, your expectations change. Gradually*, it doesn't ...

Re: Hi

Welcome to the forum. I too am an avid comic reader. Not sure if this applies to you as well, I found comics specifically helpful in help me in picking up various language skills. As a kid, I rarely read anything other than comics since every time I picked up a wordy novel, my eyes and brain acted u...

Re: Work & me... sooo pathetic!

I have no formal diagnosis for dyspraxia but I tick all the boxes. work has been a series of failures. I studied business and my first jobs were to do with admin. I forgot zeros on cheques, did not copy data accurately, forgot appointments, sent stuff to the wrong address...got called into the mana...

Re: Exams

Well done for getting accepting on to it that's no joke! Thanks I think I have to work on my belief in myself and it doesn't help when members of my family do not believe in me do you ever get that or not really? Thank you. For the most part, I am just lucky to get accepted. I am also very lucky to...

Re: Exams

Thanks for your advice! Yeah I think you're so right about the confidence as you make mistakes and need to hear criticisms as well as things you did well in! I also sometimes am too emotional even tho it can be good as I'm sensitive but it's not good at times as well! Yeah I have another year and a...

Re: Dyspraxia for hunter gatherer people

I'm not sure I agree.. The further back in history you go the more Darwin's theory of evolution and survival of the fittest seems relevant. I'm not convinced a dyspraxic person would have coped very well in pre-historic or ancient times as the environment would have been brutally harsh. I can't ima...

Re: Dyspraxia for hunter gatherer people

Not sure if this has been covered on here before... Was just thinking, I've been watching lots of Ray Mears survival programmes recently and often he lives with people leading very simple lives, relying on nature to provide for them. I'm not diagnosed as dyspraxic but it seems a very good fit for m...

Re: Exams

Thanks for your reply. Yeah I totally agree with what you're saying about cramming it just doesn't work. The thing is I changed to part time but I started focusing on my thesis (which I could have done next year) and I fell behind in the modules. Also a big issue here is my dad is dismissive and ne...

Re: Open University

Hi All Has anybody had any experience of the Open University? I am thinking of undertaking a Philosophy degree, but am unsure as to the level of support I would potentially received. (im also dyslexic) Has anybody had any recent experiences of this? And also the study hours required per week vs. wh...

Hi I'm 25 and I have Dyspraxia and I'm looking for your advice. I'm studying a masters in psychology and I have exams at the moment.
