Re: Manual Labour and Dyspraxia

I've done my share of manual labour. My job is specialised, but very hands-on. When I was younger, I took jobs in warehouses, so I'm very familiar with wrapping pallets. The best advice that I can give you is that it gets easier with repetition. I know that many people in these environments can be v...

Re: Grammar in Foreign Languages

I think that this is just a matter of aptitude. I have the opposite problem. I have little difficulty with grammar, but I struggle to pick up languages. My wife is bilingual and I have been trying to learn her native language with little or no success.

Re: Music

I love 90s grunge and alternative bands like Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins and Pearl Jam. That era seemed to produce so many talented acts and little known gems. I also really enjoy 90s Britpop (Blur, Sleeper etc). It's probably obvious that I was a teenager in the 90s. I'm also a big hip hop fan. Ice ...

Re: Teachers

Thanks for the feedback. Tom, I agree that a good teacher can make a huge difference to a student's success. This is, of course, true for all pupils regardless of any learning differences. That said, I think that it can be particularly important for pupils who exhibit such differences. Dan, I found ...

Teachers

Did anyone have any particularly positive or negative experiences with their teachers at school? I wonder if teachers today are better trained to recognise learning differences such as dyspraxia. I was born in the early 80s and, as a child, I experienced difficulties with sports (still do :P ), hand...

Re: Feeling overly confident

I noticed that you describe yourself as an understanding person. I think that being understanding comes from having struggled oneself. Over the years, I have experienced a great deal of harsh criticisms in the gym halls of school and in the workplace. Knowing the effect this has had on me, I am relu...

Re: Career help!

I have never been diagnosed as being dyspraxic. That said, I can appreciate the position in which you find yourself. A few years ago, I had a well paid career that I had worked very hard to obtain. In this job, I was expected to use a number of computer systems and to juggle a large amount of paperw...

Re: Ball Games

Thanks, Oneclumsydragon. That's all good advice. I think I'll ask for a position in defence next time.

Ball Games

Last night, I experienced a situation that I have not had to deal with since high school. I was at work and we were told that we would be training for physical fitness (due to the nature of this job, it was not optional). I am very physically active and enjoy running, weight lifting etc. Unfortunate...

Hello

I'm an undiagnosed mid 30s male. About two years ago, an employer asked if I was intentionally concealing a learning disorder. This led me to research learning disorders where I found out about dyspraxia. I have many dyspraxic traits. I can't keep track of/catch/throw a ball with any accuracy. I qui...

Re: In the army

I have experience of drill and marching from a previous uniformed job. I also struggled with keeping time and remembering the steps, which can be difficult for anyone. I was pretty bad at drill and I initially struggled to swing my arms in time with taking my steps. If there are other recruits who a...
