Cheers Tom! I will take that on board.
Trips to the gym are helping combat my idledom! Yes, there's no substitute for hard work.
Trip to a career guidance psychologist next wk might help too.
Anyway, nuff sulking out of me here!
Patrick.

Re: Positive stories about work/employers
Despite a high IQ, many people with Dyspraxia end up unemployed, me being one of them at present. The reason for it is that despite having a terrific IQ and going to Uni, you gear up for a traditional professional career, only to find that your poor organisational skills means that you find the goin...

Re: Positive stories about work/employers
Wayward - thanks man. Yes, I noticed someone got a job Landscaping, and fair played to him, he's loving it. Good fresh outdoor work, we're naturally suited to that since prehistoric times. Good sense of achievement after a day's work. But would I feel too intellectual for that? (I've a PhD in chemis...

Re: Positive stories about work/employers
I reckon art/drawing/sculpture would be the perfect job for a dyspraxic. They could paint away to their heart's content, without having to interact with anybody (apart from on sales day), and wouldn't have so many conflicting priorities to juggle. They could create a masterpiece, and live in their o...

Re: Positive stories about work/employers
I was struggling to get things done quickly enough anyway, and was quick to blame the workload; yet this same workload was no problem for anyone else. An open office plan didn't suit me either due to sensory overload, if a colleague was on the phone I'd have trouble managing if I was also on the pho...

Re: Positive stories about work/employers
Thank you Tom. I dunno, I'd be reluctant to disclose my dyspraxia to people, let alone an employer. Maybe I should have in this case, I dunno. They were quite modern and open minded, to be fair. But they said they had no need for someone like me at their company who analyzes things to the nth degree...

Re: Positive stories about work/employers
-ve experience from my last job of 3 yrs, but hopefully I can have a +ve story from my next job. I was in an office job, a family run SME, who had the patience to groom me towards middle management from day one using ‘the carrot’ approach of people management. They were patient and understanding, bu...

Re: Positive stories about work/employers
Jim : Well done, I am delighted for you! You are finding your way in that office, and developing the assertiveness needed to bash those people who are throwing their weight around. As your boss said, stand up and be counted. You’re learning to accept the background phone chatter, and learning to ge...

Re: holding jobs
Fergus: If you have difficulty holding down a job, my guess is that you struggle in group dynamics (like all us dyspraxics). Perhaps a job where there's just you and your machine or process; with perhaps just one team meeting per day, or minimal supervision on someone to fall back on if there's a pr...

Re: Social Skills
Reader1 - I am the exact same as you. In school and Uni, I spent hours on end in the library, and ended up with C's just about. I don't know the solution here, but what I do is try and socialise more often, and settle into social situations using the principles of CBT. Remember that you are just as ...
