Re: Career and Schooling when your middle name is frustration
You should be proud of the fact that you've already achieved so much so far as handling your disability goes, that's a huge leap forward even if doesn't really seem like it. Maybe you should ask around about courses that might help with your interview technique, your local council office might be ab...

Re: Developmental Questionnaire.
Don't get me wrong, I'm sure the interview will help a lot of people who do genuinely have a problem, even if it turns out not to be dyspraxia but some other condition. I was only voicing my concerns about how it mght become viewed by the online comminity when the condition becomes better known amon...

Re: Daniel Radcliffe is Dyspraxic!
Who knows maybe it will be "trendy" to be dyspraxic soon...of course will they believe any of us then?
Um... no, we want to avoid this at all costs. Having Dyspraxia/DCD is not fun, it's not supposed to be. If to many people try to say they have it and don't, the whole thing...

Re: Daniel Radcliffe is Dyspraxic!
I think these so-called 'experts' foorget that Dyspraxia isn't a general thing. It avaries from person to person. Yes Danile doens't really exhibit some of the more 'common' problems like bad short term memory {only because he spends weeks or months rehearsing and learning lines} and poor gross moto...

Re: Difficulty accepting help getting back to work
I think that thisis part of the problem Daniel, I don't know what my relative strengths and weaknesses are when it comes to different types of work. All I know is that I'm good at working with young people and that's about it. I was never allowed the opportunity to have a part time job before I left...

Difficulty accepting help getting back to work
Surely I'm not the only person here who has problems accepting help offered to them simply because they never got any in the first place. I'm hesitant to ask about the WorkStep programme because I'm not sure if I'm even eligible {when, of course I should be} and I think part of my problem is that so...

Re: do u find it hard 2 find work
Also keep in mind that it takes some people *years* to find a job these days. The UK is on an economic downturn which means unemployment is beginning to rear its ugly head and that makes things very difficult for those of us trying to look for work. I've been baack on the doe for the last 13 weeks a...

Re: Table manners
I've never had any real problem with getting food onto forks and using a knife and fork properly for some reason. Probably because my mum was pretty good with me when I first learned to eat with them. I do have problems with spaghetti though, I generally try to chop the strands down a little bit bef...

Re: Official Diagnoses?
I was officially diagnosed at 5, but no one did a thing about it because it didn't affect my school work, so I never got the support I actually needed. I got re-assessed in January of last year, in my final term at uni, and got the DCD diagnosis {they're both pretty much the same thing, except DCD i...

Umm... hello yet again ^_^;
I seem to keep forgetting this forum exists every time life gets a bit on the busy side. Anyways, I'm Alana, I live nar Ediburgh and at the moment I'm currently looking for work down in the Bournemouth/Poole area. This is mostly because the job opportunities seem a lot better down that way, and ther...

9 hours? I only took 6 and a half, not including breaking to eat {then it was more like 7}, but then I'm a very fast reader and I wasn't distracted by anyone ^_^. I went to see the movie once, I wanted to see it at least twice, but it wasn't to be. I'll get a box set of the dvds when all 7 of them a...

I've to meet with people from both of them this week to discuss the opportunities available for me. i'm so excited, I've had nothging to do since May and now i'm finally goin...

Oh cool, another Scot ^_^. Welcome to the forums. If your GP blows you off to start with, keep badgering them, they can only say no so many times after all. Despite being diagnosed when I was 5 my mum was given very little information about what 'minimal brain damage' was. She eventually found out v...

Thanks for all the warm welcome backs ^_^. For the record the jealousy of my little brother stems from the fact that he gets out a bit more than I do and is nothing to do with the way mum treats him {she's actually stricter with him than with me since he has a car and all, but generally speaking we ...

I'm glad you got an appointment made, even if it's been moved around a bit. I really wouldn't worry too much about it since the person testing you will have a very good idea what to expect. I've found that these people are very sympathetic and knwo how nervous people get when getting tested for thin...
