Re: Did dyspraxia assessment but confused and not convinced by the test or results

Hi again, thought I'd get back to reply on this thread. Recently I had the thought that it may be ADD which is causing my problems. It seems to be a good fit, especially the trouble I have with tuning out of a conversation when I'm dealing with customers at work. I'm currently reading a book about o...

Re: Did dyspraxia assessment but confused and not convinced by the test or results

I got an automated reply and need to fill out an online form... Will do that in a second. I found this article and a few similar things today - it's a close fit for me, so maybe an alternative explanation for the problems I've been having, and my strengths http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health-fitness/b...

Re: Did dyspraxia assessment but confused and not convinced by the test or results

Hi Tom, Thanks for the quick reply. It's interesting - I seem to fit loads of the criteria for dyspraxia, but being slow and poor at sports isn't really something which would be picked up in an office based assessment. Equally I don't know how they'd test for being disorganised. Also there are thing...

Did dyspraxia assessment but confused and not convinced by the test or results

Hi, I haven't posted on here for a while. After spending some time looking into dyspraxia and feeling that I fitted the symptoms, I finally did a test with Annette Dickens about a year ago. I want to point out right away that I'm in no way criticising Annette, who I thought was very professional and...

Re: Work & me... sooo pathetic!

One thing I would add from my personal experience is that it can take time to work out which coping strategies are best, and sometimes you might have to try them several times before you finally get them to work for you. I've done so many things like buying little books to write notes in, getting ca...

Re: Struggle to maintain eye contact

I do! I thought I might have Aspergers Sydrome as I found this kind of interaction so difficult. I asked to be assessed for dyspraxia and possible Aspergers and they did the Aspergers test, which came out negative, but said they don't do dyspraxia testing in my area ](*,) It's so hard to judge. I th...

Re: Dyspraxia for hunter gatherer people

Ah, glad it's interesting :) Pretty crazy to go from early man to eugenics in a thread! This is the episode which made me think especially about hunter gatherers... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DpzICbEqIAA There are lots of episodes with similar groups of people. I guess I just don't know enough ...

Re: Dyspraxia for hunter gatherer people

Hey Jim, I definitely get what you're saying. In general I don't think I'd have lasted long in a lot of situations - from hunter, warrior, miner, farmer, even something like a factory clerk in Victorian times. Might have been OK as a craftsman or been very lucky and done art or writing of somekind, ...

Re: Failing at Dreams

You can definitely improve your drawing and writing with practice. I think I'm kind of OK at drawing - still miles of room for improvement, but I've always hated my writing and have recently spent some time practicing making the shapes and lines and stuff, and it does seem to help. Also you could tr...

Re: Dyspraxia for hunter gatherer people

So interesting, I really agree! I don't think I'll have kids as I find life hard enough for myself, so guess I won't pass my genes on. I've never found a role I can really excel in, although I'm hoping to go back to education to find a niche of somekind, possibly in design. I've worked as a cashier ...

Dyspraxia for hunter gatherer people

Not sure if this has been covered on here before... Was just thinking, I've been watching lots of Ray Mears survival programmes recently and often he lives with people leading very simple lives, relying on nature to provide for them. I'm not diagnosed as dyspraxic but it seems a very good fit for me...

Re: Half-baked idea: strength and clumsiness

Such a late reply but think this is such an interesting thread. From a layperson's perspective a couple of things that came to mind. 1. The more you perform movements I think the better you'll get at doing them. So if you go from doing little exercise to doing regular strength training the very fact...

Re: My coping strategies - what are yours?

Wow, such an interesting thread! So much I can relate to. I have a pocket I use for my wallet and then usually keep my keys in the right-hand pocket of my hoody. I also always carry a rucksack which my Mum calls my snail shell. In this I have another wallet with cards I use less often, a Swiss army ...

Re: Is it hard working with Dyspraxia ?

I think one thing that should help with any job is being a model employee in all the ways you can. Like be smart, turn up on time or a little early, don't go in with a hangover or skive off, be polite and friendly. I try to do these things as best I can so that my bosses know I've got a good attitud...
