Re: Normal Jobs for Dyspraxics

I am going to have to say that warehousing jobs could be your option, I mean you kinda said it yourself. Have you had any experience with thies jobs? I do warehouse/ industrial work to be honest anything manual really that come my way and yes its not my work aim but I don't mind it and some times e...

Re: Suitable sports/martial arts

Yeah, I would definitely recommend a martial art. It certainly helped with my balance and coordination. Just be patient and remember that the only person you are competing with is yourself.

Re: Sleeping with other people

Yeah, I have to say it irritated me and I had to go and sleep in another bed. Trouble is I also get very hot and having another body in the bed generating heat adds to the discomfort.

Re: Normal Jobs for Dyspraxics

Yeah, I used a leaflet very similar to that with my last line manager. Didn't work. She was hell-bent on getting me out and she seemed to use the information on it to actually exacerbate the situation and make it worse. What she did was actually pretty dubious legally, but unfortunately, a lot of ot...

Re: Normal Jobs for Dyspraxics

I always enjoyed history, which is why I got a degree in it (ambitions elsewhere being thwarted) in retrospect, it may have been a mistake, as it isn't the most vocational of degrees and most of my coursemates seem to have gone into teaching, which isn't for me. Apart from the fact that it would be ...

Jim wrote:So how about utilising your history degree by looking for a job in a Museam?
I've tried that too, unfortunately, funding cuts and stiff competition has made it incredibly difficult (even my friend who has a degree specifically in history, museums and heritage has struggled).

Re: Dyspraxia and Depression

I certainly suffer from depression because of the way dyspraxia buggers up my life (wrt to finding work and relationships) but I find that regular exercise helps. The buzz you get from finishing a workout/training session really lifts your mood and if you are a member of a club helps you to establis...

Re: Any single dyspraxic peeps!!!

Some people here might have a success story that contradicts my theory BUT... Has anyone considered that dyspraxics might not be best suited to date each other? I think the basis of a good relationship is being with someone who has different strengths and weaknesses that complement each other. Perso...

Re: Normal Jobs for Dyspraxics

What would you like to do ? I dont think there is such a thing as a "normal" job if your doing something you enjoy you'll always end up being better at it. What I would like to do is what I cannot do. What I really wanted to do was join the Navy and see the world, and then join the Fire S...

Re: Normal Jobs for Dyspraxics

Oh yeah, forgot to mention, I also have epilepsy, so anything involving driving, serving in the forces etc is out in my particular case, but I suppose you could mention it for the benefit of everyone else. One of the annoying things is that I looked into being a postman, which I think I could totall...

Normal Jobs for Dyspraxics

Can anyone suggest a normal, ordinary job that wouldn't play to the weaknesses of a typical dyspraxic? Frankly, I'm sick and tired of reading about how the likes of Daniel Radcliffe, Albert Einstein, JK Rowling et al have/had dyspraxia and were incredibly successful in their particular fields. Unfor...

Re: Hi

Thanks for replying Jess. I've also done volunteering during periods of unemployment. Many of the people working in one particular shop there were on community service though, and when I eventually found a job, I ended up feeling guilty at leaving because they were understaffed, so I kept working we...

Re: Q: Would you classify "Dyslexia" as learning difficulty?

Wow, I can understand a member of the general public not understanding this, but a qualified mental health nurse specialising in learning difficulties? What the hell is she doing in her job? From what I understand though, there is a difference between a learning difficulty and a learning disability....

Hi

Hello, I was diagnosed with dyspraxia when I was 14. I struggled at school but got a reasonable set of GCSEs, eventually I got into university and got a 2:1 History Degree. In terms of employment, I've struggled to get it and retain it. The longest I've ever stayed in a job is three years. I'm 30 no...
