Re: Can openers!

I can relate to this - and yes some days I seem to be able to do things easily and other times not. But I have a Magican tin opener which is amazing - it is very easy to use. You can buy them in most supermarkets I think. Sometimes I find I need to slow down and think before I do something - I have ...

Re: Touch screen phones

To be honest I still have a Blackberry because I like my little keyboard! I'm fine on a touch screen like an ipad (although I prefer a lap top with a proper keyboard) but on an i-phone/smartphone it is too small and I type every word wrong and this annoys me! Bring back manual typewriters, that's wh...

Re: Dyspraxia and stress - is this normal?

Thanks very much for the reply Tom. I will try to keep an open mind. It's good to know it was helpful. I went to see the doctor yesterday and she has given me some medication (Sertraline which I had before for anxiety and depression). I feel a bit cross with myself that I can't get myself out of thi...

Re: Dyspraxia and stress - is this normal?

Sorry didn't reply before, thanks for update Ben, and pleased you're feeling better. I have been struggling quite a lot at the moment, and not back at work yet. I'm annoyed with myself really, but we have had a difficult few weeks as my uncle died just before Christmas. It has hit me harder than I t...

Re: Dyspraxia and stress - is this normal?

I can so relate to this, I get really anxious. Often I can hide it, but to be honest the last few weeks I have withdrawn into myself a lot and I feel as if I'm out of my body. I have spoken to doctor and counsellor and they reassure me I'm not going mad, it is anxiety which makes you feel like this....

Re: Movie characters who might be dyspraxic

I'll have to speak for the girls and nominate Bridget Jones! I always saw so much of myself, especially when I was younger, especially when she ends up serving her guests blue soup! She seems to trip up a lot and get in a muddle, but her friends still love her. I think we all need a Mr Darcy to toas...

Re: Social media???

Sorry to hear you've had this experience. I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with social media. I must admit I prefer forums like this or small Facebook groups where even if you don't actually know the people, everyone is supportive. This forum I think is one of the best - if not the best - sp...

Re: Chris Packhan docunentary Aspergers and me

Hi Tom What a wonderful programme that was! I too cried in places. It really moved me, and I think it was very brave of Chris to do this programme. I have also read his excellent book 'Fingers in the Sparkle Jar'. It reminded me of how I used to see the world when I was a child, very vivid and inten...

Re: Just found this forum. Hi.

Hi I can really relate to this, even though I wasn't diagnosed with dyspraxia until the age of 44! I think it is a balance - it can be hard to find a balance between being resigned to the condition and trying to change yourself too much. Dys[raxia is a hard thing to explain because it affects people...

Re: A couple of compositions

I thought the music was fantastic Dan, really enjoyed it. I think us dyspraxic people are too good at putting ourselves down, and concentrating on the things we're not good at. As Einstein said, 'judge a fish by how it climbs a tree and it will feel a failure all its life'. I play the piano, althoug...

Re: Driving & Lack of Concentration - Does this happen to you?

I can really relate to this. I find satnavs a bit confusing - and I don't really like multi-tasking - I know women are supposed to be good at this but my husband is much better than me at multi-tasking! I find if the satnav says turn right i find it hard not to think i've go to turn right immediatel...

Re: Hi everyone

Hi and welcome to the forum I was diagnosed with dyspraxia at the age of 44 (four years ago) and it's been a revelation! I can relate to getting on the wrong bus or missing the stop, and it explains why it took me three years to learn to drive! And yet I can memorise lists of things like the kings a...

Re: Dyspraxia or under confidence?

thanks very much Ram. I do find this site very useful, because it's very hard to explain some of these things to people who are not dyspraxic.

I hope everyone is doing OK

Re: Dyspraxia or under confidence?

Hi Annie and welcome I can definitely relate to what you and the others say. It's certainly not too late as I was diagnosed with dyspraxia aged 44 (four years ago) and it's great to know why I struggle with certain things. Don't be disheartened - or try not to be - by other people's attitudes someti...

Re: Any other parents worry they get it wrong?

I also think depression and anxiety are common with dyspraxia - I think now I know about dyspraxia (which I'd never heard of when my daughter was a baby) I am not so depressed any more. I think it's going around your whole life not understanding why you find stuff difficult and other people just tel...
