Re: QUIRK-ISMS
When I get really excited about something, I tend to clap or rub my hands, or bounce them onto the wall. I try to make sure that I only do it when I'm at home and no one's around because in the past my brother made fun of me because of it. I know that it''s really weird and I'm a bit ashamed of it :...

Re: BBC Four - Open University series - Growing Children
I live in Belgium, and a couple of months ago there was a student with dyslexia who appeared in a late night show on national television. He talked about his difficulties and the extra help he got in school. The next day I sent an e-mail to the producers of the show in which I explained that there a...

Re: finding an office/management job
Hi Tom, Unfortunately I can't work as a translator, because in order to do that you have to have a master's degree in translation , and I only have the bachelor's degree... I had started the master, but I gave up because I had a lot of trouble with certain subjects, like for instance subtitling, whi...

Re: Lack of friends
I can totally relate to the stories here. I've also had (and still have) trouble making friends. Right now I have one really good friend, who I see regularly, and 2 or 3 acquaintances who I hardly see. But in my case, I think it's not only because of the dyspraxia, but also because of my personality...

Re: You know you're dyspraxic when
... your mum asks you to remind her of something, you instantly forget it, and later on she's mad at your for not reminding her, although she knows very well that you have the memory of a goldfish :) The best part is she herself is probably also dyspraxic (I have some really strong suspicions) and f...

Re: BOOKS
Nicky, it's true that you can't find (most of) these books in the shops, which is a pity. I had to order my copy of "adults with developmental dyspraxia" in a local bookshop, because I live in Belgium and apparently this book was only available in England... But as long as I can get hold o...

finding an office/management job
Hi everyone, First of all I would like to inform you that English is not my native language, because I live in Belgium, so it's possible that I don't use the right words or phrases. I'm currently looking for (my first) job, but it has been really difficult. I have a bachelor's degree in translation,...

Re: BOOKS
Hi Nicky, I've read the book Living with dyspraxia: a guide for adults with developmental dyspraxia by Mary Colley, and I've found it quite helpful, because it focuses on adults and not children like most books about dyspraxia. It contains practical information and tips and tricks to make everyday l...

Re: Food temperature
It's the same for me: I don't like it when my food is too hot/cold... But on the other hand, I love spicy food (but not too spicy, just a little bit) I also hate the sound of metal on metal, thought I was the only one...

Re: Lack of friends
Hi everone, I'm also really bad at making friends, it's always been a major problem for me... People always said that it would get better as I grew older, but it didn't... I just have really low self-confidence and am not good at expressing myself, which destroys my self-confidence even more... When...

expressing yourself
Hi everyone, I was just wondering if any of you also have problems with expressing theirselves? I always know what I want to say in my head, but most of the time it comes out all wrong (incoherent) and people don't understand what I'm trying to say. My articulation isn't that good so I guess that do...

Re: Hi everyone
Thanks for the compliments on my English! I often watch BBC and read in English, so I guess that helps And I'm a huge fan of a lot of British bands... I hope indeed that the facebook group will grow and that eventually we can meet up, will see...

Hi everyone
Hi everyone, I'm new on this forum. Unlike most of you I'm not from Great Britain but from Belgium :) I'm a woman aged 23 (turning 24 this year) and will soon be graduating as a translator with French and Portuguese as my languages. I decided to join this forum because in Belgium, there is hardly an...
