Re: Dream/ Ideal job for a Dyspraxic
I work in the public sector which I find provides very good support for dyspraxic issues. Unfortunately much of the public sector is set to shrink and isn't recruitment externally at present, which makes it tricky for others to join. My job's office-based, and is in a specialist area that supports t...

It would be interesting to hear how you get on with the private option. I only found disappointment with the NHS option, however I now have a supportive employer that assists and fund some of the specifics issue I have. I've found this has alleviated the need to look for a diagnosis.

Re: Dyspraxia And Physical Fitness
This is a really interesting topic and fitness must be a difficulty that affects many on the forum. I've found from many years of bad experiences that I have not even reasonable ability in the vast majority of athletic or sporting endeavours. I also have an office-based job (as this suits my strengt...

Re: Dyspraxia or just me?
I'm not sure it's unusual to find compass bearings tricky, not least as maps are normally orientated to the North and you have to work out your position with this in mind. It's also particularly confusing in London, where tube platforms are displayed as North-South at some stations and East-West at ...

Re: Star Trek - Pro or Anti Dyspraxic?
The Star Trek films are very reference heavy, not least Undiscovered Country where you can't throw a rock without hitting Shakespeare). I'm not sure I'd read very much into a lot of it, although perhaps the destruction of Praxis is a comment on the Klingons.

Re: Disliking Other People of Your Sex?
This is a very interesting thread. I've heard generally that dyspraxics can have less of a distinct gender traits, although I'd very much like to read a study of this, if one exists. From personal experience, I've found that I've often had little or no interest in many stereotypically male pursuits ...

Re: Internet Shopping
We've recently starting buying our groceries online. I can't stand most supermarkets due to their harsh lights, noise and crowds, so being able to buy the same things without the supermarket experience is a big improvement. It's also helped cut our weekly food bill significantly.

Re: Never more than two months
I still think there must be certain jobs that would better suit dyspraxics than others. I think the problem can be is that many dyspraxics have trouble in securing decent jobs and often the less well paying jobs are also some of the most dyspraxic unfriendly. I'm finally in a job that I can manage q...

Re: Electric noise
I believe it's quite common for dyspraxics to have heightened senses (although which senses probably varies with the individual.) I'm more sensitive than most to light, sound, touch and temperature.

Re: short fuses
I certainly share Owen's comments on dealing with the general public. I wonder if this is something that dyspraxics are generally less good at. I've been in a few customer facing roles as I thought helping people would be something I'd enjoy. However, I found the number of unreasonable people or the...

Hi Jody, Welcome to the forum. Hopefully we'll be able to help point you in the right directions to get a better understanding of what dyspraxia is. Unfortunately outside of education it can be more difficult to be assessed, so I'd recommend the first step would be to read up about dyspraxia, see th...

Re: Getting diagnosed
It sounds as if many people are having frustrating experiences with diagnosis on the NHS. It seems to be that if you're out of education when you discover there might be a name for the thing that's affected your whole life, you're generally out of luck. Although I can understand that the NHS don't h...

Hi Nina,
Welcome to the forum. Perhaps you could tell us a little more about yourself? e.g. what you're doing at the moment, what difficulties you find with dyspraxia and whether you're receiving any assistance?

Re: TV Series
Has anyone been watching the Swedish version of Wallander, which is shown on BBC Four? We really enjoy it; the narrative style is rather gentle, although the storylines can be very dark.
