Re: Dyspraxia has changed my life
I got so excited this morning, there was a message on my phone asking me to phone the OT as they had an appointment to offer me for my son!! But, it's while we're away on holiday so I couldn't take up the offer! SOO disappointed! :( Now I have to wait for another appointment to become available - sh...

Re: Hi
Thanks for your support folks. Though I have to say we all have bad days & even though I try really hard to be supportive of my son, there are days when I get it wrong - today he insisted on breaking an egg when we were cooking and got most of it on the worksurface!! I should have .... well I di...

Re: family/friends
Also meant to say that there is a petition by the dyspraxia foundation about recognising dyspraxia and saying that people with undiagnosed dyspraxia or other SpLD's are far more likely to suffer mental health issues. Interesting to read their info carefully: "Dyspraxia is a developmental disord...

Re: family/friends
It's so sad that people are so dismissive about this. I suppose because it's a hidden disability so people don't always see it for what it is. Unfortunately, it's not something that you can 'grow out of'. There can be improvements in it with the right support, but your son will probably always have ...

Re: Dyspraxia has changed my life
Hi, I really know how you feel on this one - I feel so much better after discovering my dyspraxia - my life just makes sense if you add "dyspraxia" to it!! I also have a son who may have it (he's 7, we are waiting for an assessment - seems to be taking forever, but then a week would be for...

Re: Hi
Hi Ryallke, Welcome to the forum. It's really hard to say what you can expect for the future because it depends so much on how severe his dyspraxia, ADHD & Autism are. I also have a 7 year old with possible dyspraxia / Aspergers & can absolutely understand your concerns! I have recently disc...

Re: Me and my life
Welcome to the forum! I have never had a diagnosis but I know what you mean about teachers criticising handwriting. My first piece of work at senior school was returned to me with a line through it saying "please re-write in proper handwriting in your own time and hand in, is there something wr...

Telling left from right?
I've been remembering the struggles I had with learning left and right this week - it's going round & round in my head - I'm hoping that by writing it down & telling someone it'll settle things for me! I still struggled with telling left from right well into my teens & I think it was sti...

Re: Lack of friends
I have read in several of the books about dyspraxia that difficulty making friends is a dyspraxic trait. I think for me, I do find it really difficult to go up to someone new and talk to them even if I really would like to become friends, but I'm fortunate in having 2 boys at primary school because ...

Adverts that jump about
Anyone else hate those adverts that jump around on the computer screen?
The Yahoo front page seems to have had a lot of them recently.
I often have to put my hand over them to cover it so that I can read the article I'm looking at they are just so distracting!

Re: Insensitive family members
One little note on the kids front: I see so much in my younger son that I struggled with as a child, and I am determined to help him in every way I can, I love him so much, but he can be a very stubborn little boy. Through that stubbornness I have had quite an insight into how some of my parents' at...

Re: Insensitive family members
This thread resonates a lot with me. My family were frequently very critical of me as a child, teasing me about the things that I couldn't do. Mum will say things like "I think you chose to be left handed just to be awkward" (like any 5 year old knows that it's awkward to be left handed!) ...

Tips & equipment for cooking
How about a thread on useful stuff for cooking & some positive tips. Don't know how many of you manage to cook (could be an interesting poll but I don't know how to set that one up!) But reading this makes me think back to when I first set up home and the struggles I had & some of the kit th...
