Re: WAIS psychology test vs OT assessment

After that, my psychologist concluded that, from what she has seen/heard so far, and given my background and premature/traumatic birth, it was likely that my frontal lobe hasn't developed past childhood/adolescence. I don't think I would go so far as to say that your frontal lobes hadn't developed ...

Re: WAIS psychology test vs OT assessment

Yes, let us know how your WAIS assessment goes. I was diagnosed with dyspraxia on the basis that there was a significant gap between my verbal and non-verbal scores, with the non-verbal being lower. It was specifically mentioned that I had motor coordination problems because my lowest scores were in...

Re: Frustration and the path forward

Tbh I don't think it would have made much difference if you had specifically disclosed dyspraxia or not, as the employer seems very ignorant. You told your employer that you take longer to learn things and yet he's fired you for exactly that, which must be extremely frustrating! I have disclosed dys...

Re: judge of character

I don't think this sort of thing is necessarily just to do with having problems judging character, as it's quite common for there to be people in the workplace who like to gossip and bitch about others. However, I do think that people with dyspraxia are more vulnerable to being on the receiving end ...

Re: Self employment and dyspraxia.

Iv come up with a bit of an idea but not sure what everyone would think of this... what about some furniture or sculpture on behalf of a dyspraxia foundataion/forum like this one? would love to hear some ideas. I'm assuming that if you were creating pieces on behalf of a charity such as the Dysprax...

Re: Self employment and dyspraxia.

I was charging £26 an hour, although most people had half hour lessons. That might seem a lot, but it's not uncommon for some teachers (particularly those in the London area) to be charging £50 an hour plus! You might have looked into this already, but it might be a source of funding to help you get...

Re: Self employment and dyspraxia.

I had a go at private music teaching (mainly violin) but that turned out not to be a viable way of earning a living because I couldn't get enough pupils, and too many of the ones I had took the piddle! In hindsight I should have had a set of agreed terms and conditions from the outset, which I shoul...

Re: Hey... new here!

Manager just turns round to me and says, well if you told us about your dyspraxia during the job interview in the first place we probarbly wouldnt have given you the job, as were looking for someone who is more capable of doing the job That is outright discrimination! It makes me so mad to think th...

Re: end of probation at work

I am really sorry you are experiencing this at work. Being criticised for doing something that is directly related to having dyspraxia seems to be all too common in the workplace- as you have said, you don't necessarily know when you are being 'too blunt' so how can you put it right? Although some m...

Re: Practical skills

It definitely seems as if you have dyspraxia. However, if you have not been diagnosed it will be difficult for you to explain why you shouldn't work on the old age wards- if you go to your supervisor saying that you shouldn't be placed on those wards because of your problems with practical skills, t...

Re: Dispraxia (May Loose My Job)

When they say you're a 'bit shy' and have 'confidence issues', what exactly do they mean? Do you yourself feel shy when dealing with different people or not? The reason why I'm asking this is that exactly the same accusations were made about me in jobs (and even doing voluntary work), but I didn't a...

Re: Interviews and nerves. I'm better on paper.

I'm living back at home with my parents at the moment and I know its really annoying them, my mum seems to be under the impression that I'm just not trying hard enough. She keeps giving me advice like "you need to shine more in an interview" "be more confident" "smile"...

Re: A particular night

He seems like an @rse. I can't stand it when people criticise others for trivial things, then can't take that sort of criticism themselves. Tbh it sounds as if this guy might have something wrong with him - maybe he's got some kind of personality disorder or something (but don't say that to anyone w...

Re: Negative/destructive comments from others get me down

Those kinds of comments make me so angry- they are not harmless, they are in fact emotionally abusive. Comments such as those eat at a person's self esteem, and no one has the right to say things like that to you, whether they are family members, co workers, partners or friends.

Re: University Complaints Proceedure

I appealed against marks awarded for my degree (which was in music) and didn't get anywhere, despite there having been obvious cock-ups (for example, recitals were 'accidentally-on-purpose' not being recorded when it had been agreed with students that they would be). However, I had not been diagnose...
