Re: interdental brushes and other medical related moans
I take a long piece of floss. (four times longer then I will need). I fold it in half (so now it's two strands) Then I find the middle of this "double strand" I put my index finger on the middle then I twist my finger around it several times, like I'm tying to "hang" my index fin...

Re: Any tips for cooking?
I love cooking, and I am quite good at it. My one tip for Cooking with Dyspraxia is; Do not trust your sense of timing. Keep a timing app, or an analog timer while you work. Use it for your pasta, your roasting, your grilling etc. It'll improve your results and improve your well-being immensely. Me ...

Re: Riding bikes and failing
I spent my entire childhood on a bike. I'm as comfy cycling as I am walking. That said I would hate to be learning to ride now. I would be dreadful, also, as a kid, my sisters took the best part of a day each to learn to ride. I took several weeks/months, to the point where one day my mum — well-mea...

Oh I basically just avoid caffeine almost completely. If it’s after mid day; no coffee, if it’s after six; no tea.

Re: Anyone else have low muscle tone and bad back pain?
I broke my back in previous years and I have two perpetually bulging discs in my lumbar region.
When I stopped working during lockdown my back became extremely weak and for a spell I was unable to stand up or get out of bed for pain. I learned how crucial it was to keep active.

Re: Recommendations for private dcd assessment
In my experience, an Occupational Therapist is exactly the kind of person you need. That’s how I got diagnosed.

Dispraxia and insomnia
I was actually quite relieved to discover that people with dispraxia sometimes experience insomnia for… no apparent reason. It just happens. I have definitely had stress and anxiety in the past, and I have definitely had trouble sleeping with that. But—and this is the important bit—I have also had i...

Re: Falling under stress/ anxiety
The more stressed I am the more forgetful I am. Down to stuff like forgetting I’ve just turned on the oven, or made a cup of tea.

Compulsive honesty
Do any of you struggle with compulsive honesty? As in, you struggle to lie to people in any way including harmless lies that don’t matter. “How are you doing?” “Oh, I don’t know, a bit mixed?” Like, obviously the ‘how are you’ is a greeting, and you just say “I’m fine.” But I feel strange answering ...

Re: Anyone else here who is dyspraxic and married to a partner with Asperger's?
I find if you let the bad fights happen but make up. I know that sounds weird, but what I mean is, set the precedent that the big fights * can * (and they sometimes do, even with any run of the mill couple), the important bit is after the fight that you make up, or put the fight in its compartment a...

Re: Muscle issue
Gym certainly isn't a bad idea, but I would go one further and say more important than Gym is some kid of trainer or physiotherapist or even, martial arts instructor. Basically, someone who will guide you on "a" system of posture and movement. It doesn't matter what one, be it cross fit, j...

Re: Is it worth getting an official diagnosis this late in life?
On the one hand yes, you'd only be getting the diagnosis for the sake of being able to say "Oh, that's what it is, officially." But on the other hand (not to put life experiences into your skin, but...) you won't know how that might feel until you get that diagnosis. It may turn out not to...

Re: sex and dyspraxia
i was lucky to recently have met a partner I had a short a romance with. (Excuse me, I am a gay man. I will however, keep this mostly about myself, and I believe my experience will be relatable in a broader sense.) The kind of "shock realization" for me was, I can masturbate easily. I enjo...

Re: Video games
JRPGs, Story based games strategy-based games. I am—or at least I was—a heavy gamer. One game I play against the curve is Tekken; it is everything a dyspraxic person is bad at; accuracy, reactions, speed, and quick decisions, precise consistent input. I'm quite good. If I'm honest I do feel the &quo...
