Re: Gave up on life

I often feel like "what's the point". I feel like I have been so misunderstood most of my life. I have just been diagnosed with Dysbraxia [Dyspraxia ] and until now have put my fatigue and brain fog down to chronic illness, depression and anxiety. Maybe it is a mixture of all, who know's? I have fe...

Hi Melissa Go for it. He may find it hard to explain/ put how he's affected into words. Communication can be difficult but if you're both on same wavelength it need not be. By all means ask but allow him time and space to formulate his answer and accept it may be difficult or impossible for him to a...

Re: Introductions

They tried to teach me to touch type after my GCSE so hand wrote and had extra time. Wasn't a great success . I think these type of word processors emerged around same time or shortly afterwards. Did you have to connect to a dot matrix printer or had inkjets appeared by then? I don't think Dyspraxia...

Re: How to teach something "physical" to someone w/ Dyspraxia?

Could you open with somethkng along lines of: "You likely won't believe it, but I used to sttuggle similarly. I have some ideas for strategies you might try to improve your moves but it will involve a fair amount of extra practise at home. We all learn in different ways so there may be some trial an...

Re: Hello, not sure that I have dyspraxia

It's a complex and broad set of difficulties and few are affected by all the many difficulties said to be typical. Some manage ok with gross motor control, but have significant difficulty with tasks that require fine motor control (for example sewing or working on curcuit boards) Others struggle wit...

Re: Hi I’m new here

Hi Sarah There regrettably isn't a defined pathway for getting confirmation of adult dyspraxia on the NHS so it can sometimes be difficult for GPs to arrange referral. There is the Access to Work option which can be accessed through direct gov.uk or via Jobcentre plus. It is still worth talking to y...

Re: Any top tips?

Hi Gally and welcome It's a difficult condition to understand even for those of us living with it. Often we're our own harshest critics and we have long term memories that replay all the negative stuff people have said to us or about us (even constructive criticism) and replay it whenever we beat ou...

Re: feeling like needs are not met

You have to be careful that your own narrative whereby you feel like you're constantly sidelined isn't the overwhelming feeling. Yes he does get distracted easily and may not be as attentive as many would hope or expect. Some dyspraxic's struggle with short term memory and auditory processing so you...

Re: Difficult getting ready in mornings on time

Matt Not at all. Immediate responses are not required. A guy I know tried to NLP whereby he set his alarm for two minutes after getting into bed in the evening to then heave himself out of bed so that his body would perform same movement when it went off again in the morning. Sounds bit too much lik...

Re: How to teach something "physical" to someone w/ Dyspraxia?

If she has only been home schooled she may still need time to develop more confidence in her interactions with others. Dyspraxia regrettably tends to inhibit our confidence in ourselves. Being recognised is harder if there aren't peers to be compared too, not that it is really objective to make such...

Re: Difficult getting ready in mornings on time

I find the lack of a have of an "I have to" or more importantly an "I want and so I must do' structure make things difficulty especially where there is uncertainty about what is required of me, which then causes the stress or over-thinking and worrying. At weekends when I don't have work and no comm...
