Re: Hair care

I can never blow dry my hair as well as hairdressers and it often looks messy even though its short at the moment (when i tried to grow it it was even worse) However, my worst problem is with my daughters hair. I am white and she is of mixed race with afro hair and I always struggled to take care of...

Re: % of dyspraxics who can drive

I cant drive though I really only tried when I was young and then decided not to continue but my general poor sense of co-ordination and lack of awareness of what goes on around me makes me think I would not be safe. I once tried a simulator with the idea it might be safer but I found that very diff...

Age at which you were diagnosed

Just curious as to what age we were when diagnosed or strongly suspect we have dyspraxia. It seems that quite a few people on this forum were diagnosed or supected of having dyspraxia as adults. Personally I was not actually diagnosed until the age of 51 (just over a year ago) which means having str...

Re: housework

I have a real problem with housework both with organisation and with doing it well. My most hated task is cleaning windows as they never get clean. Generally my house always looks messy and when I do start to do it I seem to be just shuffling things around and never get finished. I think the problem...

Re: Can you swim?

I can swim breaststroke but I am at the same level as I was when I was about 9 and cannot improve no matter how much I try. Both my children took ages to learn and like me can only just swim now.

Re: Introducing myself -annie 49

Hi Jen , Welcome from another newcomer.I can understand your organisation problems.I was always puzzled by other people doing things with ease ,while I made such heavy weather of it.I do not know if you have heard of "flylady".I found this very helpful and they send you such encouraging e...

Re: You know you're dyspraxic when

you dont recognise your own son when you bump into him on the bus! This was very embarassing. I got on the bus with a friend and we sat down, she then said int that your son behind us. I turned round to see the grinning face of my 21 year old son saying "hello Mum". The worse thing was tha...

Re: My coping strategies - what are yours?

No never got them back. I do try to be more careful now. Another strategy I have is to keep the radio on when I am doing routine tasks at home. When I had my diagnosis the psychologist explained to me that the reason I do that is that my mind wanders constantly when I am doing things like housework,...

Re: Are you a visual learner ?

When I remember things I usually remember something visual about it eg the seat I was sitting in, the person who was speaking, or sometimes the place in a book. The problem is I tend to remember useless pieces of information and forget more important things like appointments, where I put my keys etc!

Re: am i wasting my time ??

Hi The good news is that I live in London and was diagnosed on the NHS by a psychologist as a result of a referral by my GP. The bad news is that it took several years from when I first approached my GP to it actually being done. My advice is just to be persistent and make sure the GP knows the effe...

Re: Dyspraxic issues for women in relationships?

Hi I have been married for 21 years but although we are still together I would not say it has been easy and I think that my dsypraxia has been at the root of much of it. Timekeeping has also been a problem but the most issues have been about doing routine tasks and he does not really understand what...

Re: Introduction

Thanks for your encouragement. I have really lost confidence in applying for jobs and this is very helpful You are right about schools being a different kind of working environment - I found it very odd - people seemed to be back stabbing each other and not giving you feedback to your face. Part of ...
