No Skills, No Benefits

Recently Labour announced that people who want to claim JSA will have to sit a test in Maths, English and IT but if they fail they will be denied benefits (or so it appears to me). What is everyone's opinion on this? I think it will hit most people who have learning difficulties. People who want to ...

Re: Can dyspraxic people drive manual cars

I have been driving for 3 years and I found I drive as well as someone who doesn't have Dyspraxia. I did take lessons in the mid 90's I think it was with an Independent instructor but it fizzled out. In August 2009 I tried again and went with BSM and the first lesson I felt a bit bemused by the proc...

Re: Career ideas

What are your strengths? What are your key skills? I think in a way key skills are a strength when it comes to work. We don't know what work exactly Baz has done but from what he said in his post experience in customer service and sales shows me he has great interpersonal and communication skills. ...

Re: The world has been scarred!

I'm just back from my first driving lesson, it's quite a tiring experience! I made one person swerve almost drove into 3 signs when the instructor said move away, I thought he meant the oncoming traffic! I also mounted the kerb doing a manoeuvre I've done loads in car park, I have done some practic...

Re: administration work - problems with accuracy

I can sympathise. I have a number of IT based qualifications but we are talking about covering most of the 90's and the first 2-3 years of the new century. From 1995 which was my first certificate to 2003 which was my last certificate. I have problems remembering all the ways to use the various MS A...

Re: JobCentre Plus

They are largely useless. DEA's are incompetent, unfriendly and lack knowledge. Job Centre Plus rarely help graduates. Remploy, A4E, Shaw Trust, RBLI could be described as a joke. Hi guys. Long time no see. I don't even have a DEA now I don't think. I used to have one but that all got stopped I thi...

Re: % of dyspraxics who can drive

I passed my test last September. I have really adapted well to driving quite naturally and normally without having to worry about trying to remember everything. I feel like I have been driving for ages. I was terrible at the start. I really felt the whole thing of controlling a car was to complex to...

Re: Trouble getting to the friend stage

I have acquaintances but I have no friends. I have difficulty opening up to people, so they can know the real me. Does anyone else with dyspraxia have this problem, what can I do about it. You could be me. The people I know are acquaintances too. People in passing who I never see again once we part...

Re: Lack of friends

All of this is very correct. I used to be very quite and would never give my opionion and was quite needy but not that I'm the complete oposite I can see how annoying it is to have to deal with someone is clingy. I agree being self-sufficient, friendly and independent works and as for the boyfriend...

Re: Recently diagnosed dysoraxic - worried about relationshi

I know I am a right one to talk expertly about relationships when I have never had one but speaking as an observer I don't think dyspraxia really has that much of an impact on your level of success or failure. I think most of our failure to attract the opposite sex comes down to our own lack of conf...

Re: Lack of friends

I think most of the people I have known through my life are aquaintances. That mostly due to the fact I think as a person, not because of my dyspraxic tendencies, I find it hard to make friends. Take that plunge and just brazenly walk up to someone and get to know them. I am a very withdrawn anyway ...

Re: Trouble Feeling the Pedals?

I have drove in trainers with a good tread and I have felt a whole load of issues. I too found general contol and sensitivity of the pedals hard but I think it is almost as if the tread creates resistance. It is as if the tread sticks the trainers to the pedals. I wear trainers but they have no trea...
