Most unfavourite inventions
Who invented plastic document pouches? Why don't they have a zip on one side so you can get them open? Also, did they make them so slippery on purpose? :-k Sellotape is another useless invention. [-X They ought to ban all tape so everyone has to use pritt stick to wrap presents up. Presents even loo...

Re: Question for those with partners of people with dyspraxi
[quote="agsiul"]Looks pretty good. I'm with you. It's an impairment for me that has to be managed too. I use loads of tactics....I'd need some help with tactile defensiveness though...any suggestions? Driving could be a problem if you live in the country...you don't want to end up stuck in...

Question for those with partners of people with dyspraxia
There's been talk on this site about the challenges of having a dyspraxic partner. Everyone sees dyspraxia differently. Some see it as a gift, others as a curse. Personally I see it as an impairment, a condition that requires treatment, strategies and adjustments in everyday life in order for me to ...

Re: Another famous dyspraxic
Yes, I agree that the public needs to be educated about dyspraxia and it would fantastic if there was a big media campaign. The photographer David Bailey who is dyspraxic and his wife Catherine Deneuve have played a part in making the condition better known but billboards or even a TV advert would m...

Re: Painful Joints
I've had joint hypermobility my whole life, so much so I had physiotherapy for a short time as a child. I was told to hold a tennis racquet and bounce a ball on it (yes, I know..) to strengthen my wrists. It could be worth a try if you want to improve the resistance in your joints as although it may...

Re: Loss of concentration
You're tired Dobbinhun. The day is full of challenges like keeping on task, remembering sequences, lifting heavy objects with weak muscles etc etc and and to top it off you need all the energy you can muster to pay attention. Dyspraxia can be like any other energy-sapping medical impairment and mean...

Another famous dyspraxic
Hannah Macdonnell, an actress in Ireland who won the Rose of Tralee prize in 2008. Here she is talking about what it's like to live with dyspraxia on TV. I think this is a great interview and she did a great job of educating the public.

The link didn't work before so here's one, you can get the NICE guidelines for ADHD from here. If you print it out doctors are more likely to take what you say seriously.

Re: My Boyfriend Has Dyspraxia
Hi LadyAbbie, You're clearly doing your best to communicate with your boyfriend. There's no need to feel guilty or angry with yourself for struggling to make yourself understood and get his attention, or for being frustrated. You're making an effort to bridge the gap between you and him so you shoul...

Article about dyspraxia and employment
What do think of these suggestions? Do you think employment issues among the dyspraxic population are best solved when the right adjustments are made, to make it possible to comply with pre-existing job descriptions? The writer argues a better solution may be to create new jobs that utilise the uniq...

Re: Never more than two months
Hi again, thanks for your replies. Sorry I didn't come back sooner. Most of my problems do seem to be down to speed and accuracy, as Aladdin said. I did in fact keep a part-time job for three years, working with disabled children in an adventure playground but haven't lasted in any full time posts. ...

I've been reading a website by a disability organisation that says that disability affects women differently to men, something I strongly agree with. It goes on to say that women are conditioned to feel that they absolutely must be able to do housework and other conventional tasks to a high standard...

Re: Dyspraxia and Fibromyalgia
Hi Anne. It's interesting, I've noticed Fibromyalgia and ME seem to be more common among people with dyspraxia but don't know if there really is a connection between the two or if it just appears that way. I go on general disability messageboards and some people may just have more than one condition...
