Dyspraxia and creativity event
Hello I'm a freelance journalist and writer with dyspraxia and am co-presenting a talk on dyslexia and dyspraxia in the creative industries in London next month (scroll down to March here http://www.ideastap.com/Opportunities/spa) I'll be talking about the bright side of dyspraxia as well as the cha...

Re: Talking to people in my head
What you've described in your post sounds spookily familiar to me in almost every respect. I do these things the time. It's something deeply private to me, all the more so since my friendship with the one person I have ever hinted to about it broke down. I spoke to a therapist about it for the first...

Time management support
Does anyone know of any time management coaches in London/the South East? By that I mean specifically time management, preferably geared towards self-employed people with SpLDs, as opposed to general "employability skills" or "life-coaching?" I'm a freelance journalist and am fee...

Attracting the wrong kind of people?
I'm in my late 20s, and was diagnosed with dyspraxia/dyscalculia in my second year of undergrad. I've had depressive tendencies since the age of 8 or 9, largely, I think, as a consequence of my dyspraxia and a lack of recognition or support. I survived the social minefield of school and, despite my ...

Re: Dyspraxia and sex
As a woman, the first thing I would say to you about your girlfriend (and I'd say this to any man, with regard to any woman, dyspraxic or not) is don't get too hung up on her reactions. It's really great that men are getting wise to the fact that women enjoy sex and deserve to enjoy sex as much as m...

Re: Tips or suggestions
I'll second fans of Google streetview! Absolutely love it. I give myself verbal checklists a lot, where things like checking I have everything I need before I leave the house are concerned. I also try to do things while I remember to do them even if they don't need to be done at that exact moment, a...

Re: Dyspraxic drivers wanted for newspaper article
Hi Abby - No, the area you live in doesn't matter as it's for a national paper :-) I've been speaking to osymandus privately and at the moment I think he's going to be my main subject as he took a long time to learn and has quite a few experiences to discuss, but I'm still interested in weaving in o...

Dyspraxic drivers wanted for newspaper article
Hi, I'm a dyspraxic adult and a freelance journalist specialising in education and SpLD issues (I've been authenticated by the mods – a piece of mine was featured in Guardian Comment is Free very recently). I'm currently working on an article for the Daily Telegraph on driving and dyspraxia (around ...

Re: [survey] Link between Autism, Learning Disorders and Aut
I think the reason for the link between autism and LDs is the sense of social "otherness" common to both and the difficulty with social cues, which is also common to both. However, what a lot of places don't mention is the subtle difference between the two in terms of how these difficultie...

Re: diagnosed at 21
I was diagnosed at 21...there were rumblings at school when I was little from staff who were concerned about me but nothing was ever followed up and I sought the diagnosis myself at university due to various factors.

Re: My dyspraxic boyfriend
First of all, thank you so much for posting this. The dyspraxia and sex issue is something I've been thinking about quite a lot recently. I'm a mid-20s dyspraxic female with a pretty abysmal romantic track record by most standards. This is mainly due to years of falling in love with unavailable peop...

Thanks very much for the reply, Kirsty.
The website looks fantastic but I notice they are based in the South West area - I live near London, so I'm not sure they'd be able to help me??

Careers advisors who understand dyspraxia
Has anyone seen a careers advisor at graduate level who has an understanding of dyspraxia and dyscalculia? I am experiencing related problems in my current job and although I'm fortunate to be working for an extremely supportive company, I'd really like some advice on how to move on and play to my s...

Thanks for the reply. BSM were actually the first place I tried years back, just after I turned 17, and the instructor was appalling so I gave up after about 3 lessons (and later found out that that the instructor had moved to a different driving school). However, as I said above I didn't know I was...
