Re: What should I do?

Hi, my GP arranged for the private referral. Believe me, they can't do enough when they know you're paying :D tho, in fairness, both my GP and the guy he referred me to were very nice. :) I think the consultant was a neurologist, can't remember, and I no longer have the letter of my assessment as I'...

Re: What should I do?

I printed out the list of dyspraxic symptoms from The Dyspraxic Forum website, highlighted the ones I was most affected by (eg hand-eye co-ordination) and took it along to my GP. He wasn't too familiar with dyspraxia, tho he knew a little, but he was great. I'd already decided I wanted to go private...

Re: how am i ever going to get a new job?

Try voluntary work (provided, of course, it won't affect any of your benefits?) Since retiring, I've been volunteering with Beanstalk.(Though all age groups volunteer with this charity.) I work on a one-to-one basis, helping primary school kids with their reading, two afternoons a week. You are allo...

Re: feel so disheartened, like giving up

Do Tesco still have that psychology test for job applications? I remember a friend applying years ago and I think there were three or four answers to each question. My friend didn't get the job, but she heard later (not from someone at Tesco, not sure where) that they were kind of trick questions. T...

Re: made a complete prat off myself again

I wouldn't automatically assume you didn't get the job because you "waffled on". I waffled on at an interview once and left convinced they must have thought me an idiot and there was no way they'd take me on. But I actually got the job and stayed in that job for 23 years, only leaving when...

Eyesight and Dyspraxia

Was talking about this with my sister recently. Mum had eleven kids and three of us (my sister, me and my late brother) were born dyspraxic. Both my sister and I are short-sighted and the level of sight in one eye is much worse than the other. After my brother died I realised he must have been the s...

Re: Organising my life

Leanne, I know this isn't directly related to organisation, but you mentioned struggling to keep on top of housework. One of the best tips I was ever given is take shoes off the minute you get inside. You'll be amazed at how much cleaner the floors and carpets stay! :)

Re: Reflections on my 1,000th post

So sorry to hear about your loss, Tom. It's hard to go thru losing your Mum. I lost my Mum 30 years ago and think of her every day tho I've come to terms with it now. I guess what helps is I'm a very firm believer in that we just pass on to the next stage of existence, whatever that might be, but I ...

Re: Can adults/people with dyspraxia type and use cell phones (Needing advice and answers)

Your psychiatrist is a bit thick. A while back I worked as a typist for about five years. I'm still fairly quick on the keyboard - probably around 70 wpm. Once you know the QWERTY keyboard system it's very easy. I can of course use a mobile phone too. Neither really involve hand-eye co-ordination,. ...

Re: Can't put in ear plugs?

Hi um so has anyone else had the problem of being unable to tolerate noisy environments such as college but unable to put in ear plugs due to the motor skills involved?! I'm 20 years old and it's frankly embarrassing needing to ask someone to try to teach me! I don't have a dyspraxia diagnosis but ...

Just read the rather interesting fact that Paul Simon plays guitar right-handed and writes right-handed but is actually left-handed with everything else! :)

Dyslexia and Dyspraxia Awareness

Not sure where to post this... My nephew told me that his son's primary school are learning about dyslexia! I don't know much more than that as it was a conversation in passing so will have to wait till I see him again. It's brilliant that they are being taught about dyslexia in primary school, but ...

Re: Getting interview questions in advance?

You probably already know this, but most employers now use core competencies based on the STAR system ie Situation, Task, Action, Result. If you have an idea of what core competencies they might be looking for (eg Working in a Team; Customer Service et - you can get loads of info on the internet abo...

Re: 1 Negative comment really knocked me down

Vimes, instead of feeling negative, you should be patting yourself on the back for being such a lovely caring person that you didn't want to upset your girlfriend and push her back into depression. Sod DIY, what you did is what I call being a real man. Nicky, I know what you mean about multi-tasking...
