Re: Cramps

There may be a connection. Weak back muscles tend to lead to more pelvic and abdominal pains. Have you tried doing any strengthening exercises like Pilates? I know that when I was in better shape, my period pains were less severe.

Re: Does anyone else here have uncontrolled twitching?

Sometimes, one of my eyelids will twitch if I'm stressed. Also, not sure if this counts as a twitch exactly, but my husband has pointed out that I tend to nod my head when I'm nervous. So embarrassing! I'm not sure how to deal with this problem because if I nod because I'm nervous, then overfocusing...

Re: DOES ANY SLEEP A LOT LIKE 14 HOURS

I have to sleep for 10 hours, and even then I am still tired sometimes. In order to make getting up easier, I'll set an alarm for 15 minutes before the time I actually need to get up. That allows me to wake up gently and prevents me from waking up at 7 A.M. and then hitting the snooze button 3 times...

Re: Hair care

Tell me about it. I've kept the same hair style--long and layered with blunt cut bangs--for over a year because it's low maintenance and I dread having to learn a new one. At least I am able to use a straightener pretty well, but only after months of practice. If you have trouble watching your styli...

Re: Folding clothes/paper/towels

Just take it slow and be prepared to re-fold if needed. That is what I have to do.

Hairstyling

I was wondering how other dyspraxic women do with their hair. I am not particualrly agile with my hands, so that's always a problem for me. I also like to keep my hair short, which usually requires more maintenance. Can anyone recommend low maintenance, dyspraxic-friendly hairstyles for the ladies?

Re: does anyone have a problem of not knowing what others meen

I have that problem, too. It's really hard for me to tell when people are joking or using a figure of speech. I tried reading different books (like Jane Austen) so I could study conversations and try to figure out what cues to look for, but I am not having much luck. Are there any self-help books ou...

How to read people (esp. when joking)

I have trouble reading people, particularly figuring out when they are joking or not. A lot of people are deadpan, so there is no change in tone to signal when the person's telling a joke (online I have a really hard time telling when people are joking unless they use emoticons). Needless to say, th...

Re: walking into things

Yes, that happens to me. I am always bumping into chairs or tables and bruising my legs. It's annoying because I can see where I'm going and I want to walk straight, but my body just won't cooperate.

Re: Daniel Radcliffe is Dyspraxic!

I'm not pleased to hear of his condition, but I admire his bravery to speak up and admit this. After all, if an ordinary person like you or I said we had trouble tying our shoes our zipping a zipper, we'd be laughed at, but he can help bring more positive awareness to the condition. As someone else ...

You always have cuts on your legs from shaving! I collect those the way most people collect stamps or bottlecaps!

Re: Trouble Feeling the Pedals?

I have this problem to and sometimes I do drive barefoot (praying that the coppers won't catch me). I found that if I must wear shoes while driving, I do best in flip flops, because they are thin and there's not such a dramatic separation between my foot and the pedal. Good luck with your driving!

Re: Phsical Contact

I am another member of the touchy feely crowd. I don't mind being touched if I know the person very well, but with strangers it's a little iffy. OP, I'm sure you can find someone else who's not very touchy to be in a relationship with. If not, just explain that you are not a very physical person (yo...

Re: Sharing advice for coping strategies

Thanks to everyone for sharing! Some of these suggestions are really great (i.e. swimming, writing, and yoga). I did Pilates for a while and that helped stabilize my movements. Unfortunately, I left off doing it and would like to start again. Although I'm not terribly flexible, it still helped.

Hello everyone

I just found this website today and it truly feels like a godsend. Here is my story. This may sound very cheesy, but it never occurred to me that I might have dyspraxia until I read a story about Daniel Radcliffe's struggle with the disorder (as you can guess by my handle, I'm a big fan of the serie...
